drive chain

How long is a typical drive chain suppose to last? Just had to change mine at nearly 62,000 km. It got very clunky and thought I may lose it. Only started that about 2000 km before that. I still have the original sprockets on there. The back still seems good and so does the front.

How long should it last?

Not as long as that...

To put it perspective, I got 24ooo miles, or 38ooo km from the original, and it had a Scotoiler fitted from new. It had got to the stage where it needed adjusting every 1oo miles, it was so worn out.
As for the sprockets, they must be 'hooked' after that number of miles, and so will wear out the new chain faster as a result. I've always been told that a new chain should always have new sprockets.
Still, it's your bike.
I'll bet your tyres and pads last a long time, too. You must ride differently from me.
