Replacement Screens

I know this subject has many variations, but has anyone tried the
Skidmarx Flip screen. And if so what was the result?
They seem to be very cheap compared to other options at £45
and in array of colours for the same price.
Any thought or experiences with this screen please

Skidmarx

I bought one about 2 months ago and it does indeed make a difference. There is not quite as much buffetting on the motorway. I am 6' tall and the standard screen gave lots of buffetting but with the skidmarx, there is a lot less. Its also easier to duck down a little to almost elliminate it alltogether. The only way to do it with the standard was to lay on the tank :-)

BTW, I got a light tint and its fine for looking through but as it is also transparent all the way down to the fixings, you can see the fairing / dashboard fixing bolts through it. The std screen has darker tint/sticker at the bottom to hide the bolts. I'll be looking for something to stick on to hide it.

I've not tried the other more expensive screens so can't offer a comparison, but all in all, for the price, I'm happy with skidmarx. delivery way quick too. 3 days from order to delivery.

I've just noticed that it looks like you have a 1050 tigger, mine's a 955i (53 plate) so my last reply may not be completely relevant......sorry. Might still be worth a try for the money. If it doesn't work, screens tend to go pretty well on fleebay

Tigg-Ted,

You are right, this subject has many variations (and has been done to death) and the conclusions are always the same:

Until you make a screen high and wide enough to take the buffeting over your head, you are throwing your money away.

If a screen costs £45 what do you think the result is going to be ??
The MRA Vario costs £100 and doesn't work !!

I'm sure you've read the posts on here about screens and there is one definite proven screen out of all of them, and you have to make it yourself:

I don't want to come across as harsh but I hate to see people throwing their money away. I was in the same dilema as you and tried four different screens and they were all a waste of money, so I got off my arse and solved the problem for myself. A OEM Triumph Tall Screen with Vario hinges and a home made spoiler high and wide enough to deflect the air flow over my helmet. It works 100%.

I didn't get there in one go, I had to test many variations and designs, but the rewards were worth it. My buffeting was so bad that I was getting off the bike feeling physically sick. Now all I have is still calm air to sit behind. The difference is amazing.

I get PM's from people on here and TigerTriple all the time asking how I made it and does it really work, and yes it does - 100%. They are in the process of making their own.

How much testing do you think these screen manufacturer's put into their product ??

Do you think that they design a screen and put it on a Tiger and make sure they work, ?? NO.
Do you think they test them again and again until they do work ?? NO, they are purely cosmetic.

I know this sounds like it's turned into a rant, and it isn't aimed at anyone, but the solution is already out there - you just have to make it yourself !

More on Screens

Thanks Graeme,
You just enforced my thoughts but it's worth a try, at worst it will be £45 spent and the material to do something similar with the vario hinges. And with preformed shape to boot no heating in an oven to form it. Never know might be lucky!it can't be worse than the OEM
Watch this space!
