Loss of power.. any ideas?

Hi there, I've got a '99 tiger witch seems to make me upset more then it makes me jolly when I ride it.

It shakes and rattles around 3000rpm ( a common problem I hear but no solution?). Worse when going uphill or two up, it sounds metal and painful. After 3.5 rpm its all fine and sweet until around 6 or 7 rpm when it looses power and would not accelerate any higher. If I twist the wrist on the neutral, needle goes right to the reds no problem. It gets worse when its hot, if I twist it quickly it takes a second or so to start reving, very slow reacting to the throttle. Can it be that it cuts of (or gets too little) air or fuel at those rpm? Anybody have any thoughts?

By the way, Im in Lithuania, so the nearest triumph dealer is maybe 1000 miles or so away..

Cheers,
Algis

G'day Algis,

Sounds a little strange to me. The metallic sound could be that you have your chain too tight, it needs to have about 50mm slack at least, when it's on the side stand or up on the centre stand.

Or, you could load up you and your partner and get someone to check that there is still about 10cm slack at least.

This could also be part of the power loss, but not that likely. The power loss could be any number of things, including bad fuel, old plugs, poor ECU mapping or some other after market add on that's causing a problem.

Need more info on that.

Mick

Miker, thanx for your reply, but I have gone tired of endless problems and mysteries of the bike that no mechanic around here would solve.. and I have sold it maybe in future I will buy another Triumph, but its gonna be and oldie.

Cheers,
Algis

Er, dont want to state the obvious, but you just sold an oldie

I was going to say that mine has the same vibration problem, but only when rolling on in certain gears. Rag it in each gear and theres no problem
As for the power loss you experienced I`ve no idea

Best of luck with your next ride.
