Stranded!!!

Help please....stuck in France.(could be worse!)
2005,955i. On the bike all day, parked up for some 'tea', returned to continue and nothing! No dash board lights,no engine management, oil, etc . Datatool alarm works, headlights, hazards, etc but everything else is dead. Battery is new. All fuses look ok.
Thanks for any help and advice.

Kill switch?

Not trying to be a wise-acre, just bringing it up 'cause it happened to me once!

Good luck!

Cheers,
Brian

Brittfour;

What exactly was the source of your problem and how did you correct it?

Stranded....still!

Nope. I turn off alarm, turn key, flick kill switch and nothing! As I said, lights work, indicators, etc but no warning lights and no engine start. Could it be a relay?
Cheers.

I would look at the ECM fuse and the ECM power relay; it's the rearmost relay next to the fuse box. It has black 2 browns and a yellow coming out of it (from memory anyway). start with ign off, put your finger on it and turn ign on. If it clicks, it's ok. The fuse check is obvious.

Good luck!!

Is your alarm system tied into your ignition?

If so that might be the issue?

I used the Chatter box on several bikes which the alarm was tied into the ignition - if memory serves (on the Chatter box) I had to clip the white wire which would by pass the ignition protection the "Chatter Box" provided.

Just 2 cents worth - good luck!

Well, the exact source of my problem was that I remembered way back in the MSF beginning rider class how they explained that the proper way to turn off the bike was to thumb the kill switch with your right thumb, keeping both hands safely on the bars and in total control of the machine. I remembered thinking that I'd never tried that and that I would give it a shot sometime. I did try it, on a Friday evening after work - and it worked great. I put the bike away and did non-bike stuff all weekend. On Monday morning, the bike would not start! Had lights, but the starter was non-operational. Put the bike back in garage and rode the bus to work. Later remembered my kill switch experiment, called the wife at home and asked her to check the position of the switch.

I've never used it since then. Alway use the key.

Cheers,
Brian

Stranded....no more!

Many thanks for all advice.
Back on the road after buying new battery and Datatool alarm re-setting itself! Relay was ok as were all fuses so I reckon the battery was at fault and the alarm got all confused! This is only a guess so if it happens again I'm in trouble.
At least France has good food and drink so great place to be stranded!
Thanks to all.

Funny that, mine's a2005 955i too and I've just had my battery give up on me last week. In my case it went during a dealer remap - and he didn't spot that was the problem, I had to sort it myself

Watch out for the charging system woes too, there's loads about them on the other Tiger Triple site.

Tiger Immobiliser

Just for info, I disconnected the Factory/dealer fitted Data tool immobiliser on my bike, and fitted the wiring "distance piece" into the loom. The guy from whom I bought my bike had a similar "dead bike" when on holiday (France by co-incidence) and it was the immobiliser playing up, so I decided to ditch it. Apaarently this is not uncomnmon with the data-tool system.
