Hello all,

I have a dilemma and I would appreciate advice from you all if you don't mind.

Having snapped both the fuel connectors (female part), I fitted metal ones from Quick Couplings. I screwed them in so there is about 3mm of thread left showing. They were quite hard to turn but I just presumed this was due to the tapered thread I'd read about. I put it all back together and they were leaking so off it all came again.

When I took the new couplings off the tank I noticed the threads in the fuel pump plate were mangled. So I put it all back together am managed to minimise the leak. It is just the lower coupling seeping around the pump plate now.

Any ideas how i should proceed?

Would PTFE tape on the threads be a good idea? Should I try tightening the couplings in some more? Or do you think I've screwed the Fuel pump plate and I should stump up for a new one and new fittings?

PTFE tape everytime on anything with threads and liquid. Beats Boss-white.

Dont know if PTFE tape is petrol resistant, check out Evil Bettys posts, he`s had loads of trouble with tank fittings.

I use PTFE tape on petrol tank fittings. Others I know do too. I haven't yet needed to touch the fittings on my Tiger, though.

Took the whole thing apart again today. Cleaned up the threads some more with a wire brush and re-assembled using PTFE tape as per ChazzyB's suggestion. Guess what... Problem solved

I did a bit of research on fuel and PTFE tape and came to no solid conclusion. For every person who said it breaks down in fuel there was another who said they'd been using it on fuel fittings for years with no problems.

So I went with the voice of experience over science. It may be my undoing

The couplings went in a lot smoother with PTFE too so double whammy of good fortune.

All I need to do now is find a way to lower the exhaust so I can use throw over panniers and I'm good to go.

And also huge thanks to EvilBetty for doing tons of legwork and posting it up so I could find the parts and do the job.
