Throttle position sensor (potentiometer)

I recently purchased a 2006 Tiger with 2,000 miles on it. It started misfiring & stalling & then the check engine light came on. The code it throws is "P0122 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input". I am trying to find a new throttle position sensor with limited luck. Any suggestions?

Hi Erik,
had a problem where bike would start no problem but rough idled until warm, also felt throttle response wasnt equal to the input given. Triumph Edinburgh checked through ECU and found throttle zero position was out. Zero throttle was actually being seen as nearly 15% throttle, reset and now ok.
Just been on holiday on the bike and the fuel saving has nearly paid for itself already!
Hope this gives some help.

Thanks,

But I'm pretty sure the sensor is bad, not just out of adjustment. It run well when cold, but when it heats up it mis-fires, cuts in & out, and dies at any RPM between idle & about 6,500. It was an interesting ride home on the Peak-to-Peak Hwy when it started running like this.

Before going further... check your air box. You could have crap in there.

TPS can be had for under 60 bucks from BikeBandit.com.

Another Possibility

I had my stepper motor die about a year ago and after that was fixed the bike still had sloppy throttle control. It wasn't bad so I didn't worry too much about it, thinking that was just the way these bikes were. Then one cold morning last March (just barely still under warranty) I got on my bike and at the first turn one block from my house the back wheel started spinning and the front wheel went airborne. Normally if I hit some oil or such the rear would slide and I would just lean on the front till I was clear but it was clear the rear was having no problem gripping as it was lifting the front.

Well as you can imagine the bike took off without me and I was standing in the middle of a six lane highway with road rash and a tattered business suit looking to see if I was gonna get pasted by traffic. Fortunately I made enough of a spectacle that everyone saw me and stopped, and the bike seemed alright except for a lot of cosmetic damage.

After checking these forums I convinced my Triumph shop to replace my TPS before giving me back the repaired bike (my insurance payed all but the deductible and did not cover my suit). The bike was mostly idle for about 4 months when I had a bout of unemployment but once I started commuting again I noticed a progressive loss of ignition quality. My gas mileage also was going down.

When the second stepper motor died the shop got serious and told me to drop off my bike for the week so they could take it apart. What they discovered was that the main ignition computer had one of the 2 25-pin connectors to it loose. This was causing voltage fluctuations that was slowly destroying other components and causing inconsistant ignition.

I asked the shop if I should contact Triumph about this so that they might react quicker if it happened to someone else, and they said "Don't worry, we will tell them" which gave me the impression they were NOT going to tell Triumph.

Anyways, if your Triumph has a stepper motor die (which is supposed to be rare), I would strongly recommend they check those computer connectors. My insurance company still considers me "at fault" for the first time in 25 years until I get a letter from Triumph stating that it was a mechanical error. In that case my insurance company says they will go after Triumph to recover their costs so the whole thing is a mess.
