Oil top off and other issues

My '01 Tiger has been sitting for a year, and I want to get it back on the road.

Checked the oil and it looks quite dry. I'm afraid to start it without topping off. However, I can't find my owner's manual and have no idea where the oil would go. Any direction is appreciated. Also, should I be using synthetic oil?

Also, anything else I should be checking out after a year (besides the obvious fluids, tire pressure, etc.)?

To check the oil, bike should be upright on its wheels ( not on sidestand ) dipstick/filler is on the right side just above footbrake !! remove dipstick, clean, replace fully, remove dipstick and read level, full is to the upper end of this mark XXX, if needing toped up it should be synthetic oil. if the bike has a centre stand it might be worth while putting it on it, put bike in top gear and turning the engine over a few times just to make sure nothings stuck !! the petrol might be sour so might need replacing.

hope this helps !!

I dont have a 955 so Im guesing, you dont have a window for oil level check and have a dip stick instead?? Oil probably goes down the dipstick hole? best use fully synthetic too, Im using Castrol, but do a search on here to find what others use.

Found the manual and looks like the oil goes in the same place as the dipstick, so that mystery is solved. Also, will go pick up some 4T on Monday.

But any suggestions on what I should check out before getting back on the road would be appreciated.
