Different handlebars on a 2005 Tiger.
Last weekend I fitted a lower set of bhandlebars on the bike. The originals had me too upright. The bars are an aftermarket in the Euro-style (roughly 2" rise, angled back and down slightly), same width as the stockers. They effectively lower and move my hands slightly forward.
This was not a straight bolt on. I drilled the new bars to accept the locating pins inside the switchgear, and welded up threaded plugs to keep the bar-ends. On the throttle side, I cut back the end of the bar to match the Triumph unit, and made the plug on this side slightly longer to compensate. I think Triumph does this to keep the RHS bar-end weight from tightening against the throttle. (I spent a lot of time bending welding rod to make sure that the controls cleared both the fairing and tank at full lock.before I started. This sounds more complicated than the actual work.) The brake line fitting from the master cylinder had to be loosened to swing the line up slightly (then retightened).
I'm 6'-2 and the new bars are more comfortable for me, plus the wind noise from the taller (Triumph accessory) windshield dropped slightly. Yesterday I had the 600 mile service done. This is really a grrrreat bike!

Just two questions: Is the triumph gel seat really worth it as I us a nice white fluffy sheepskin? and
What is the loudest exhaust for the tiger (for off road purposes of course)?
gel seat worth it? YES!!!!!!!

Loud exhaust - try Renegade

although I personally find the Triumph one a good sound without being a plod attractor.

Has anyone tried a throttle lock of some kind? I need to drop the right hand evey once in a while and am interested in what the group knows about these.

Really good information in the forum. I have my bars on order.

Hi there,

Our member 'Robbie' has the cheapest and most innovative solution. Check out the Tiger forum album at the top of this page, look in the 'Bars & Grips' section and you will see that his solution is an 'O' ring from a CAT diesel engine. When not in use it sits in that groove on the bar end weight. To use it you just roll it sideways and into the groove between the bar end weight and the twist grip. Works just like a cruise control!! and it is quick to just roll back out the way.

A few cents/pence/euro against lots of money for some of the more fiddly awkward solutions.

P.S I think the CAT part number is with the photo

Thanks, Big Stripey. I looked up CAT on the web, found a local dealer, called him and had it at my doorstep in two days. Works great!

Hi All,

Just joined the forum having had my 999 Black Tiger since February, done 3000 miles already.

I find that I get a lot of turbulance and wind noise, Im 5'10", and would like to change the screen, but which one?????

Any and all comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Steve,

There is no right answer to this one. I'm 5'10" and have the MRA Vario fitted. It does reduce turbulence, but not much effect on wind noise. I have followed the many threads on screens any you are going to have to accept the Tiger will not give pan-style quiet ride.

Use the search facility (it works well) and check out the many threads.

In the end its about how far you can compromise peace & quiet against a great all-round bike.

Hi,

What a useful thread!

I've been looking at ways of protecting my '05 Tigger and making it more comfortable and this is the best thread I've found yet.

I'm keen on the oil cooler and radiator guards, but I'd prefer black to the metal finsih on the Touratech ones...though they do look better made than the ones from Thunderbike.

I'm also thinking about a hugger as I will be using the bike all year round and I'd like to keep muck and salt out of the suspension, so the NWS 'Silver Ghos' one looks like a good match for my aluminium silver bike.

So far I've fitted the MRA Vario screen and I've been really pleased with the difference that makes and the extra headlight relays make a huge difference riding at night.

SWMBO asked me what I would like for Christmas, so I feel a long 'wish list' coming on....sorting out the order of preference is a challenge though!

Ride safe!!

Ken...
