Tom Tom Help needed

I bought myself a tom tom rider a while back and have tried to get it to charge from the aux power socket by using the battery lead supplied, with a hella plug which I attached to it. I don't want to have the lead there permanently as I only use the sat nav occasionally. I have had no success in getting it charging so far and have tried re-wiring the plug, and even hard wiring it straight to the battery but it still doesn't work. Anyone got any suggestions to help me solve this problem? I'm no sparky (obviously..) or mechanic and have no access to volt meters etc. The sat nav charges fine in the car and from the house by the way. Thanks in advance.

I am not to clewed up on the Tom Tom except a mate had one and had trouble with the mounting bracket. It was seemingly a first generation which I understand has been resolved with the later version).

Could it be you are not getting a connection between the bracket and the Tom Tom as from what you are describing all else seems OK.
