Hi. Does anyone know where in the UK I can buy the relays that make both of the headlights on my 06 Tiger 955 work?

I saw them a while ago on Ebay but they don't seem to be advertised there at the moment.

Cheers

Hi there,

I too got mine from Triumphonline and they work a treat. They are half the price of going to a Triumph Dealer for them.

However, I showed the relays to a mate in the Auto Trade and he sourced these even cheaper:

He's got them on his Tiger and no adverse effects. They are the exact same ones as the TOL, as far as I know.

Let us know how you get on.

No problems for the charging system.

And although you'll get a few different opinions on this - you stand out more on the road with twin headlights on. Some say that vehicles ahead of you can mistake twin headlights for a car in the distance rather than a bike at close quarters, but I've never had a problem.

I must say I've reverted to single headlight on dip with both coming on for main. I'm not convinced either way on the headlight / visibility question - there is good research that says lights can actually hide the bike, as well as the "car a long way off" possibility, slight though it may be.

T Joe,

Good point :)

There's something in the back of my mind telling me if you've got the wrong ones in, your headlights go dim when you start the bike. But old age has got the better of me and I can't remember

Have to go, I think my bag's full

hi guys i have been looking around for this info so really chuffed i have found it. where abouts are the relays located as i am going to sort my tiger out this weekend .
Hi Big Ady2 and welcome. If you sit on your bike and look down between the top yoke and the dashboard on the left hand side, you will see an oblong rubber boot covering the relays. This is accessable from under the front of the nose fairing but I would suggest you take it off for ease of fitting the relays and the cover boot back on.
I did this mod to mine and fitted Osram Silver star bulbs at the same time. The light is brighter but the basic design of the reflectors is POOR to say the least. You would think that for a machine capable of three figure speeds, the lights would be better?
Check out this site for an alternative, I am looking into it now. www.hidcity.co.uk

Thank you very much Roy i will take a look today where these relays are i will replace the bulbs as well, when i got my tiger i really could not belive how bad the lights are and made worse that we have bi zenon lights on our car which are amazing. I hope that this makes them even a little better because as you say this is a three figure number bike.

iansoady question for you

I have the relays for both headlights on all the time but wondered what you did to go back to one light on dip (standard) and getting them both on when on full beam? I am always concrned running both lights during the day due to the poor charging system on the Tiger!!

Been a while since I converted them but sure you only had one light on dip and then that went out and the other came on for full beam, all be it useless!!!

Right just a quick update on my conversion i sourced my relays from a local auto electrician and have gone for the halfords extream 90% bulbs. it all went well pretty easy to take to bits and put together the only prob i have now is that i left my ignition on when testing the relays went inside to look after our 1 year old and flatened the battery so put battery charger on for a bit got it started now the engine management light is on so rang my triumph dealer and they say to just do three cold start cycles and it will reset its self ... have you guys heard of this ??

I did the three cycle reset on mine for the first time last Sunday. I started the bike and let it run at tickover until the fan kicked in. I read somewhere not to touch the throttle during this operation, so I left it well alone. Then I left the bike for 20 minutes or so, and repeated the sequence. Then did it again. When I went to do it for the 4th time, when the bike started the engine management light went out, and has stayed out ever since. Result.

#23 ·
Result I did the 3 cycles and it has turned the managment light off
I have been out tonight and wow the lights are ace compared to stock
a very easy task to make a ton of difference thanks to all who advised
me on this matter

Bulbs

Some advice on bulbs. I recently read a magazine test on headlamp bulbs and for just about every type of bulb (H4, H7 etc) Philips came out best for light output, build consistency etc etc. Might be slightly more expensive than some others but it could be worth it if the bulb throws the light where it should go.

newbie here, I have just read the post about bringing ON both headlights, sound s simple mode and worth it. Would the Relay have to be romoved for the MOT or not.

I have only had the Tiger 2 days, can some one tell me what are the bulbs.

On my previous bike (TDM850) the lights were rubbish so I put in some Extreme brightness bulbs from Halfords, I got a spare one, without me pulling the bulb out I thought this would be easier to post Question.

MOT depends on where you take it. I think you'd get away with it most places. What I do to be sure is put some black duct tape over a section of the beam that your turning on full time. Like you would if you were going to drive abroad.

The bulbs are standard H4. I fitted some Ultra Xenon and they have made things a lot better.

I got the rely today Hella 12v 20/30A, model 4RD 003520-08 pin outs are 30 87 87a 86 85. I fitted it into the spare rely socket, the only thing is only LHS is ON at main (dip) beam. Ffull beam (high) both lights are on, is this correct? as I was hoping both lights would be ON for main beam. then Hi beam Both.

:Anyone

Yep its a late 2006 955i machine registered in 2007,

ah ha I see so there are 4 ports available, the one I cannot find must be above the original one, I will have a butchers later.
I'd better get another relay the same then the last one I bought.

Thanks for your help Blacktiger, its much appreciated as I am new Tigers, previously I had a bandit for 3 years then a TDM850 for 9 years. I know those bikes inside out. so there will be a learning curve for me on the Tiger.

Cheers

Hi,
Got mine from Motorworld, I think I paid ÂŁ3.50 for them. They had a small plastic tab on the side which you use to fasten to body work of a vehicle. I just sliced that off with a stanley knife, they work fine.

So long as they have a diode in them they'll continue to work fine. Otherwise they'll work fine but every now and then, for no apparent reason, you'll find your battery completely drained overnight.
