Ok lets try this again. Just stuck this on as as reply to a Vario question. It's early.

If I want to wire a 2610 direct to battery what else do I need beside the harness from Garmin???

A fuse in the line and perhaps a switch to isolate

I have mine wired direct to the battery including the fuse that came in the harness.

I have just wired my Zumo 550 in behind the fairing, I found a positive and negative on a large block connector that is live with the ignition on and dead when turned off, it was pushing about 14v when the engine was running, the garmin shuts itself down after 30 seconds when the ignition is switched off unless you select to change over to the internal battery.

I found it easier than trying to route the harness under the tank and around the headstock.

I just connected my Zumo directly on the battery. It works as a charm ! I leave it max 3 days on the cradle and my battery still has full power when starting again. Why bother connecting it to the ignition or install a switch.

Yes, my Zumo has been wired directly to the battery for the last 12 months. No problems at all.

I'll risk dragging this oldish thread back from the dead to ask:

When wiriing directly to the battery, is it a good idea to use some sort of connector, or simply take the bare wires and wrap them around the battery screws?

I had it in my head to maybe see if Powerlet made some sort of adapter that I could connect the wires to and plug in to the accessory outlet, But I didn't see anything on their site that looked applicable. Then again, I'd have to compete with my heated gear in the winter.

Oh, and I'm referring to a Zumo 550 my wife just got me for my Birthday.

I thought the wires were a bit too thin (Garmin Quest) for routing and attaching to the battery, so i simply 'piggy backed' them on the wires for the heated grip switch. Just find the live feed, ie. switch on your ignition and find the connector on the back of the switch that is live when the switch is in the off position. You can use one of these (the right size) to connect to the back of the switch.

No problems two years down the road...

Hope that helps, but if you do decide to connect directly to the battery make sure it is a very good connection and no bare wires! If they touch the frame - Ouch...

ended up fishing the wire under the tank before attaching with wire ties than routing up to battery. Used fork connector on bare wire end before attaching to battery. So far so good.
