Hi, I was looking at the wiring diagram in the Haynes Manual and noticed an alarm connection on the back of the Tiger.
I'm wondering has anybody used this connection to fit a Datatool System 3 unit?

I haven't seen this connector (yet) and am wondering is it a socket and plug affair (complete with a plug) or does the alarm wiring go straight into the connector.
If I need a plug any ideas where to get one? Does it have to be Triumph?

As I'm going to fit a new Datatool Sys 3 soon any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm being lazy asking this question here but it will save me stripping the bike to find out.

I reckon its a D.I.Y. job using the socket and a Pro job without it am I right??

AFAIK the Triumph-badged datatool comes with the appropriate plug - you should have a plug fitted at the moment which connects the relevant cables.

Datatool doesn't have the best of reputations but I've been quite happy with mine so far.

Hi Ian,I got the alarm as a present from my son and it has bear wires at the end of the unit.
So it mustn't be the TRIUMPH one.
Wires are colour coded though and fitting instructions are very clear as to where they go and what does what.

I'll be having a go at fitting next week so I'll find out what I need (probably the hard way.... )

Can't you, or your son, take it back to the supplier and ask to exchange it for one with the correct plug??

You will have a nightmare of a job if you try to hard wire this alarm to your bike.

To qualify for Thatcham approval all wiring for the bike and the alarm has to be neutral to thwart any tampering. Just get 1 wire wrong and you risk totally disabling your bike!

I have fitted Sentinel moto alarm to my Tiger usign the alarm connector.
You have to get connector called 'Multilock' including necessary plugs; you might try at www.rs-components.co.uk

Then you have to check service manual wiring diagram and pay attention where to put proper wires. Also observe original allarm plug - you will understand what has to be connected over alarm relays (immobiliser)

Some experience are required plus some handy tools as it really might disable your bike. But you can still use the original plug, if somethings goes wrong. No damage to ECU shall be possible, as there are only: GND, Vcc, Starter switch, fluel pump, turn signals and LED in the instrument panel.

Alarm can't be exchanged as I have it for ages.

I'm going to proceed very carefully and won't do anything that's irreversible until I'm 100% sure.

As the wires are all colour coded then it should be fairly straight forward to fit / solder them into the correct pin on the plug. The Haynes manual has all the wires shown and which one is which. Of course if I can't get the correct plug to fit the pre-installed connector then I won't be doing anything myself.

I agree that hard wiring into the loom is a job best left to the professionals.

Slayer any info or pictures that you have would be great to have and where exactly is the alarm connector located on the bike? Am I right in thinking its at the back of the bike.

Finally got around to looking at the wiring for the alarm,
there were 2 wires connected into the plug that weren't shown on the Haynes wiring diagram.
That was enough for me...chickened out straight away and handed it into a reputable car alarm installer.

Got it back today with a good job done .....alarm installed.
