I saw this topic covered a bit ago (2003) and thought it was time to revive it. I am riding on a Corbin (>15,000 miles) and it is very comfortable. However, it is also significantly wider than the stock seat so that the bike feels even taller for me (6'0"/28.3cm tall with a 36"/14.2cm inseam). Around town it gets a little tiring standing at lights on my tiptoes.

Does anyone have any comparative experience between the Triumph gel seat and the Corbin. I figure the Triumph seat has the benefits of being narrower and height adjustable (something the Corbin is not). So would I be giving up comfort on long rides for around town flexibility? I suppose I could shift back and forth as the seats are easy to change. I could also sell the Corbin (anyone interested ).

Finally, another approach would be to do the lowering thing that has been discussed many places. I am a little nervous doing that as I really like the clearance and cutting and welding the stands make it a one way modification.

Thoughts?

Fred

P.S. One other thought I just had is that I should put the original seat back on just for a quick ride to see if I do feel like I have more control around town. I will let you know how that goes.

Who knows? Comfort is such a subjective thing that even someone who has had both seats couldn't necessarily give you an opinion that would be accurate in your own case. All I can offer is that I never found the original Tiger seat to be actually uncomfortable, and I do find the Triumph gel seat very comfortable indeed.

I cannot comment on the corbin as I have never used one. I can comment on the other issues though, having lowered my bike and using the gel seat.

I find the gel seat a huge improvement over the stock one and have used this on 600km journeys with no butt burn, so yes it works (for me at least) and it is considerably cheaper than most other options.

Lowering the bike has no adverse effects on handling. I have managed to touch the hero blobs down but have not decked out anything else, so on -road I do not have any clearance issues. I dont do offroad, so cannot comment on that area but doubt this would have much impact either.

Yes the sidestand needs to be cut down or an alternative found. I have no plans to raise the height again so do not find the one way operation a problem. I did not cut down the centre stand. Yep it takes a bit of a knack to get her onto the stand but not a problem.

I put the stock seat back on and rode around this weekend. I can really get my feet on the ground and the bike seems to handle much better (I am sure that is just my imagination). I did not like the feel of the stock seat at all so I ordered a gel seat. It should be here by the end of the week. I will let post a comparison between the Corbin and the Triumph gel seat at that time.

Cheers,
Fred

Fred,

I just got my new Tiger and the new gel seat was the first thing I put on the bike. I rode for 3 hours last Sunday with no problems. The cost of the seat is not bad considering I paid over $600.00 for the Mustang set up on my Yamaha. The gel seat seems to be cooler too.

gel is cooler when its cold but warmer when hot as the gel holds the heat more than the foam but this is not uncomfortably so.

Gel seat arrived today but I have only had a chance for a ten mile ride around town doing some errands. It really helps (compared to the Corbin) in letting me feel I have control. I need to ride it for some length of time to comment on comnfort versus Corbin. I will keep you posted.

How much would you be asking?
