I just got my first electrics this winter (gloves and vest) and can't believe I rode all these winters without it. Do it. You won't be sorry.

I have both the Gerbing gloves and full jacket liner. I would highly recommend both. Mine came with a dial thermostat. The good thing is that you really don't feel the heat through the lining - you just stay very comfortable and don't feel the cold.

I will start riding the bike to work now that dst has started. Don't like to ride home in the dark, as I must traverse 3 miles of roads through the woods to get to my house and they are heavy with deer. If I can see the rats on stilts I feel better.

Temps will be in the 30's and 40's when I leave in the morning but the heated gloves and liner will make it comfortable. I would highly recommend the purchase if you ride in the cold.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the input. I also tapped a few riding buddies who own heated clothing. Got the same response from them.

I sprung for the full jacket liner and gloves. Got two hookups buying them together so I can wire the Tiger and the Harley

Got the whole thing, with tax for $320. My buddies said it was a good deal.

Looking forward to riding toasty!

I have read through the threads that had some relevance to my question, and really (on this trip) expect to run into nothing more than a few gravel or dirt roads, maybe some snow, and wet.

Thus, I am not looking to convert my Tiger to a BMW 1200 Adventure. I do not plan to go for full off-road.

This said, I have some ideas and want to get ya'll input on if I am on the right track.

- Wheels/Tires - wheels are probably ok for trip, but I expect I need to change to a tire with cross-over tread.
- Crash Bars - already put the SW Motech's on
- Lights - Plan to put a set of PIAA driving lights on the inside of my crash bars.
- Luggage - I plan to put a set of the Trax boxes/panniers. I will run a set of soft tour bags I have on the back of the seat and on my top box carrier.
- Jerry Can - I will find a way to fit a small (2 gal) jerry can somewhere.

Do I need to put a skidplate/engine protector on the bottom of the bike?
What else do I need to consider getting?
I just got back from Pueblo, Colo. (to Ft. Worth) and two items you might want to consider are heated grips and a Throttle Meister. The heated grips did an excellent job and the Throttle Meister sure makes those long stretches of highway more relaxing. Oh, one more thing, I also have a set of highway pegs on the engine guards which allowed me to stretch my legs. Have a great trip and be safe.
