modding stock muffler

I bought my '06 in September, and it's stock as far as I know...but when I was checking out the muffler I notice that the end cap has three allen bolts holding it on. Is this the stock muffler? It has a paragraph of info and the Triumph name on it, and looks stock to my untrained eye, but I wouldn't expect a standard can to be so easily opened. I would have opened it already to see what's inside, but one of the allen heads is a little stripped and I need to find something to fit it better before I make it worse.

So, if it is the stock can, I'd really like to hear about anyone's results with modding the guts. My search hasn't turned up much. I'm thinking about popping some holes in the baffles as suggested, but I'd like to know how that's turned out long term for you guys that have tried it, and if anyone's gone any further down that road.

Thanks,

Ian

Hi the 3 bolts just hold the cover on a standard can if you take this off the inner is welded in place i had the same thought with mine. In the end i found a pipe from MTC exhausts which has all the numbers but you can remove all the gubbins so it sounds sweet and its a lot lighter than standard also because it has the numbers no mot problems

Max, are you saying you gutted the stock can and had a new inner pipe welded in place?

If so, did you not end up with an odd resonance fromt he inside of the stock can?

No harley i considered pulling it apart but it ended up easier to buy a straight through can with the numbers on it

By numbers, he means the Conformation Unified Noise Tested (perhaps I shouldn't put the abreviation) numbers. Our bikes have to be as quiet as a mouse.
