Red face LED Indicators

Yep gone and converted to LED's.

I did not change the outer shells. I removed the plastic chrome reflector and made a plastic backplate the same shape.

I then drilled 5mm hole to the patern of my choice. On the front I have 25 Yellow LED's and the Rear with 20 Yellow and 5 Red, in a line in the center. The 5 Red's are wired to the Brake lights so you get the standard brakelight plus both indicators red.

The LED's were 6000 MCD and cost 7 GDP (good old flea bay). I had to replace the flasher with an electronic one again 8 GDP.

Result is that with the standard lens replaced the Red is just right and the yellow more of a spead, easier to see and much brighter than standard.

Next project is the stop and tail conversion, again to LED's

Just cant leave it standard !!!!

Yes I will get some pictures up at some stage.

Also when I do the tail light I will do a stage by stage photo run.

Bottom line it depends on how many LED's you want to install and then I worked out an even patern.

I did put the LED's in clusters of 5 with a 27 OHm restitor rather than individual resistors. this cuts down on the space needed and if ther is a failure it would only be one group of 5.\

As I said pics to follow.

Nice!

Nice job on the indicators. Looks like that was was a fun little project.

Did you consider having the LED's work as running lights?

Cheers!
Mike

PS...keep up the good work.

Yes I did consider running a row of whites on the front as I did Reds on the back (For Brake warning). This row of whites in both sides would be running lights. However I chose not to do this as the lens are standard and there was a risk of the running light showing orange. his may confuse a car driver waiting to pull out if they could only see one indicator.

I chose therefore not to do this and stay with 25 nice and bright yellows in the front.

I do have the twin headlight conversion and I also have a set of auxiliary lights running with the headlights when on main beam or the overtake flash switch. I will put this mod on my site next.
