I know a couple of you have Ram mounts for your GPS'es. I've been looking at the Touratech GPS brackets, and the more expensive ones of these are lockable.

However, looking at the Ram mount website, it looks to me like the standard arm w. two ball joints can be very easily taken apart by losening the adjusting screw until the two sideplates of the arm come apart far enough to lift the whole assembly off the balls. Is this the case, or are the pictures not showing everything?

Obviously if this is the case I'm thinking it's little point in forking out the extra cash for the lockable brackets?

TT,

Yes it is that simple.

One thing to bear in mind, if you use a tank bag and fix the ram mount to the bars, it can obscure the Garmin slightly.

The R.A.M. mounts have so many combinations with the different length rods and fitments, they can not only carry your GPS, but both still and video cameras fit on just as easily. Perfect if you want to video some of your journey to enjoy later

They are strong too, when i put the Tiger down while off-roading last year it didn't budge a millimetre

It takes me about 5 seconds if that, to get the Garmin off when i leave the bike.

Check it out here.....R.A.M. Mounts

When I had my TT locking mount on a ram arm I substituted the knob for a standard bolt. It took me 20mins to remove it then. in standard form the ram mount is very easy to undo.

Yes ram mounts are easy to remove, but given the opportunity all mounts leave the GPS vulnerable. Lets face it they are highly nickable, so its probably best to have a QD mount and then take it with you. I have recently binned my touratech and ram mount and now use the std garmin mount secured to the base plate from the touratech on a cross bar. Its secured with bath sealer and this is quite strong enough. The longest bit about removable is taking my winter gloves off....
