Talking Chain Oilers/warranty issues (Poverty!)

Hi Fellas and tigresses, I know everyone raves about scottoilers but triumph spain tell me that fitting one will void my warranty, I´m also on a teachers salary with wife, mortgage etc. so expensive solutions no good either. I´ve been looking at the loobman or some kind of homemade copy( I´m Not cheap, just poor!) Has anyone been down this road and what results have you had. if there are any other great cheap inventions out there please share, and there will always be a beer in my fridge for you any pics you have would be gr8

I get good results from Wurth chain wax - and it doesn't chuck oil all over the back tyre.

Is a chain oiler really a priority? If they told you it will void your warranty (which should not be the case) why risk it? Just lube it youself every 300 miles or so. If you're on a trip, a little can of chain lube doesn't take up much space.

Thumbs up cheers Ian

Thanks Ian, but I want to fit something automatic if I can to keep the chain wet with an auto/semiauto oiler, theres a lot of dust here for 9-10 months of the year and an oiler is an economical option

Oiler

I believe in the UK if the dealer fits the scottoiler the warranties ok but if you do it could be void!

I’ve had one fitted for a couple of years now, but I was out of warranty anyway.
Before that I had a loobman on there, whilst its alright, its quite difficult to get the right amount of oil with it and I found it messy.

Why not look at the Pro oiler, which is electronic, and not a warranty problem, if you cannot get your dealer to fit the scottoiler.

Me I’d fit it myself and take a chance its only Ting into vacuum line and providing its airtight the can be no problem.

"...there's a lot of dust here for 9 or 10 months...."

Anything you put on the chain is going to attract the dust and increase the wear...why not just clean the chain every 500 miles or so and leave the stuff off...your chain will thank you...these new chains are NOT like the chains of old, and the only thing you are lubing with an automatic oiler or sprays is the roller to sprocket contact.

So many chain oilers, so many opinions,
to each his own,
Viva la difference!
Nice to have choices.
Suffice to say, I am happy with mine! Cheers John.

Fitting a chain oiler to the bike voiding warranty is a load of guff. Call them on it by contact the distributor. If it voided warranty, then so would things like aftermarket pipes, bars, heated grips and screens. I checked with my local friendly T dealer and he said "No problem" so long as it's fitted per the instructions".

Keeping the roller/sprocket contact lubed is the most important part (ala Redbird) however if you have a lot of dust, there is another option, that I've used successfully for the past 3 years.

DuPont Multi-Purpose Teflon lubricant. It goes on as a sprayed liquid, but after you leave it for 1/2 hour or so it turns to a lovely film that lubricates but won't attract the dust. Webbikeworld did an article here http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/motor...chain-lube.htm I usually lift the bike up when I get home and give it a good squirt on Mondays and Fridays, which equates to about 400 miles. Plus I do it after rain, even though the lube tends to stay put, it helps dry the water out of the chain.

Another mate of mine uses White Lightning push bike lube, which offers the similar protection. http://www.whitelightningco.com/products/index.htm

No, they're not automatic, and yes, you do need to apply them more regularly than normal chain lube, but I did about 40k miles on the Speed Triple and so far have 12k miles on the Tiger with plenty of chain wear to go.

DISCLAIMER: I have no affiliation with the above companies, I just like what they sell.
