New Tiger Owner? Top Box

Hey all,

Just picked up my new, used 2005 Tiger. I just got back from a 200 mile ride to test her out and I must say it is AWESOME! I am gonna love this bike. Now for Farkles...

I am looking at a Topbox. Anyone have opinions? I have looked at the Givi, I would like something I can fit 2 helmets in and will allow for my bride to have a backrest for sense of security. Will the stock rack be adequate to mount to, or should I get the heavy touratech aluminum permanent mount? How many have the quick disconnect topbox? Is it worthwhile or should I just get the permanent mounted one?

I am going to put on a Scottoiler for the chain.

What are people using for street tires. I used Metzler Z6's on my Sprint, do you use these on your Tiger as well (I know everyone has an opinion, like starting an oil thread....).

I would like to do some extra lights, anyone put on these as well?

Acutally got one like this off ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LG-De...2em118Q2el1247

Not a bad case. wouldn't buy this one because they are asking $30 for freight...OUCH....

Nothing fancy but it works, includes mounting bracket. My wife likes as she would not ride with me until she had a backrest. Don't know how well it works in the rain.

Congrats on the new ride, be safe and enjoy,

The Triumph topbox for the 955i will fit two helmets, on their sides, with the necks facing each other. Prices can be bit nasty, but one of the members got one off fleabay cheap the other day. Good luck.

Givi E460 is what I use.

The original carrier is more than adequate. Buy the Givi universal adaptor plate part number E250 which is a good fit onto the OEM carrier.

You can also get back rests to go on the Givi top box.

The original Triumph top box really does look the "dogs danglies" on a Tiger, but they are not the strongest of things in comparrison to a Givi, etc.

Just weigh up the options - Do I go for looks ? Triumph.

- Do I go for strength ? Givi, etc.

Regards,
Graeme.

hey thanks guys

Thanks for the info. Being that I am going for strength I will likely go with the Givi.

I ordered the new Cee Baily screen last night. I had a Cee Baily on my sprint and I really liked it so I went with that again.

I have now moved on to figuring out how to wire my farkles (Starcom, Ipod, GPS) and I must say there is little if any room under the seat for a Centech. I looked into the SW MOTECH electric tank bags, those are super nice, but **** they are pricey. I think the bike came with a tankbag, but when I picked it up his wife was unsure, so being a good dude I left it. If I get that bag, I may just run a hot wire with a quick release fitting to the bag and put the goodies in there.

Oh welll. I just keep pressing on! The wife and I will be riding the bike to church and then a short ride for her first one on the machine!! Lets hope she likes it as much as the sidecar...I doubt that is possible, but I know this I miss the lean and power between my legs!!!!

Top Box Etc

Have Give e42, perfect for Tigger, but works loose after several thousand miles so used rubber spacers to keep secure, have two tank bags; one by Held which is big and good but Cortech bag is superb!

I just love my Tiger , have owned just over a year and done 17000 miles, which is more than I have ever done on my previous bikes in a year........

Talking GIVI topbox

I installed the GIVI 520 with the light kit. I heard the Triumph box was
1) Leaky
2) $$$Expensive
3) Chintzy

The GIVI is a seriously solid unit. It mounts perfectly ans solidly to the rear luggage rack with a Universal mounting kit (from GIVI). Check out my album for pics. Great, great unit and worth every penny. Dismounts easily, has a fold away carrying handle and swallows HUGE amounts of gear. Looks great as well.

You won't be sorry.......

Another Givi user here, dont know what the model is as it came with the bike, it has a back rest fitted and as mentioned is easy to fit/remove from the carrier that bolts to the rack.

Tyre/Tires, Avon Azaros fitted late last year, no complaints so far and I feel more confident with these than the Anakees they replaced.

Bike magazine did a comparison test last year on tyres suitable for the Tiger, I can post more details if required.

Tires

I recently researched new tires for my Tiger. After going back and forth, I decided to stay with the original Metzeler Tourances. My first set lasted a whopping 14,000 miles (started to look a little slivery in the center (if you know what I mean), but handled all of my road trips expertly.

Since they were a known quantity, I didn't want to buy something else and be disappointed.

Cheers!
