Crash Mushrooms

Hi, I know that it is common knowledge on this site that crash bars are a good idea given the Tiger is easy to drop when handling in the garage etc, but has any one fitted the plastic mushrooms / sliders? If so have you had cause to use them and how did they fare against bars. I know deep down that bars are a better protection against dropping the bike but I don't really want to put them on my bike.
The mushrooms are a lot less conspicuous. On the negative side, they are only plastic Knobs that cost the same as bars.

Who will set my mind at ease as to where I should spend my hard earned?

The frame sliders are designed to minimize damage during an at speed low side type incident and the crash bars are more for protecting the engine from contact with rocks, etc. I had them on a 1050 Speed Triple and ,unfortunately, had to use them on several occasions. The damage was limited to engine case scrapes and bent pegs in all cases, the bike was rideable afterwards. The crash bars may provide low side protection, I'm not sure how far they stick out. Do the bars limit access to the engine?

I've just recieved my frame sliders from R&G today, ready for fitting on Sunday.I looked at various crashbars, but did not like the look of them.Much too bulky for my liking. The frame sliders are fitted to the bike with a 4 inch long stainless steel stem, and the bobbin is fitted to this.Very neat, very tidy.

I have put my hand in my pocket at last and bought (and fitted) some frame sliders from Bike Johnny. I think they look really good. They were easy to fit, I didn't remove the rad or oil cooler a bit of a fiddle but not too hard to do. The only problem could be torquing up the bolts if you don't have a 10mm hex adapter. I used a 10mm allen key cut off a length from one end and put it into a 10mm socket.
I was thinking that they were rather expensive for plastic bungs but they are very well made and fit perfectly. I am pleased I bought them.
Just hope I never have cause to use them.

I to have the R&G protectors they saved my tank once in a car park. I wouldn't like to say what they would be like if they went down the road. I hope not to find out

I have added some pictures. I hope you can see, they don't look too bad at all. They are long enough to protect the tank but do not protrude out too far.

They do look good. I hope they will do the job ok. Will the lower engine cases be exposed though?

To be honest I think they would be scratched if not totaled. I hope that between the sliders and rear foot pegs the damage would be reduced.
