Two up with Panniers

I have an 02 Tiger (Green) without bags. Been looking at several aftermarket options. Leaning toward aluminum panniers but I wonder how they will impact my wife's riding position. We ride two up a lot. (Trying to convince her she needs to get a ride of her own...)

The other option I considering is a small single wheel pull behind trailer like the Uni-go http://www.uni-go.com/

Thanks

As far as I understand it, when you buy a Touratech kit, the bracketry for the boxes is not fitted to them, you DIY it. I know for certain that with a mates' GS1150, he did exactly that. The result - you can chose how high or low, forward or back, the boxes sit, within the constraints of the bikes' layout. That way, you should be able to get a pannier position that enhances her ride - rest a cup of tea on, hold on to, or whatever.

Thanks Skidpan, nice to know there is some flexibility to how the cans get mounted.

Have an 06 with stock panniers. Only problem my wife has is that she is short and it's a bit of an adventure to get her on the bike with panniers installed. But once she is on, no problems with riding position

Thanks RT
I hadn't though about her getting on...was focused on her being comfortable when she is on.

Also have 06 with stock panniers, then added a Givi top box as well. It is still not a problem for the (relatively short) Mrs. to get on, just has to lift the right leg a little higher than without the top box.

I have an '05 Tiger with Happy Trails aluminum bags and Givi topcase. My wife reports that the bike is quite comfortable and doesn't find the bags intrusive at all. My wife is 5'9" so your results may vary.

Thanks Ziaduck

Good to know that you can have the more rugged cans and still take the wife for a ride

My 02 has a set of Touratech Zega Metal Panniers and as mentioned when they come with the hangers you can position them as and where you like. I set them up so the wife has no problems getting on and quite high and so with the top box on and the tent strapped to the top of one of the panniers she is really comfy.

The other good thing about the metal boxes is there ability to stand up to a few knocks. I don't know how you guys do it with the factory boxes but when ever im away i always manage to mark the boxes, this would p*** me right off if they needed repairing all the time but with metal it only seems to enhance the look.

Sounds like just what my wife and I want to do. Take the bike and get away for a few days of camping.

What do you take with you when you camp?
