Was out all day on tango and had a blast. I decided to pop in and see a mate on the way home, and by the time I left him to ride the 3 miles home it was pitch dark.

So I'm heading home and I've gone about a mile when bang lights out, I'm doing about 75mph on a road I know well. Luckily I'm on a 1/4mile straight but heading for a tricky left hander.
I suddenly realise that I've still got my side lights and can pick out the cats eyes down the middle of the road, while I'm frantically trying not to hammer on the brakes.
I did manage to stop and pull off the road and headed home, hazard lights on and visor up.

I've checked the fuse and checked the bulbs, both ok, so I am asuming it must be the relay/s, unless anyone can come up with another option.

I take it that you lost both lights but side and tail are OK
Start at battery and work to lights
Check fuse (OK you have done that)
Power to RHS switch (even if you have a late 03 or 04 without the switch on the bar the wires are looped on the switch side of the harness block check it)
Check the seating of the start lights cut out relay (the big on in no2 position I think)
Check LHS dip switch for power
Check connectors to lights.
Check that both bulbs have not blown!
Pay elecey bill.
Check any earth connections you find.

That’s all I can remember without seeing the wiring diagram

Hi !! tango

i take it you have no main beam or dip ?? it could be a faulty switch. as you know salt gets in everywhere.

hope its an easy fix whatever it is.

keep us posted

KK,

Yeah that's right no dip or main, just side and tail lights.

I have managed to fix it. There are actually two fuses controling the lights, I only looked at one and it appeared ok but both had blown. So as a matter of course I replaced all the fuses in the fuse box.

It's a perfect day here to go out on the bike dry and sunny but the air temp' quite cold, perfect for the bike to suck in all that cold air, so it's game on.

KK.

yeah it was a cheap fix, but like you say more worrying is what caused it. the likely culprit is possibly like Robbie said, ie, one of the bar switches.
There could easily still be some c##p in there from when it tipped on the trailer, tango got a right mouthfull of mud and silt.

I've had one bulb give up on me before this, but never both.

So long as they are working, for now, I'll leave well alone, until it happens again?!!!.

I'll be taking tango to the plastic surgeon shortly, so will be able to give the switch gear another blast out with the air line for good measure.

Thanx ot, shall need to speak to my supplyers about "contact cleaner".
