I thinking of putting on the touring screen to help with buffeting any body do this tman

Tman, I tried the touring screen and it was not much improvement over the standard. I bought the Tall screen from skidmarx which is much better but still need a couple more inches height. I'm about 5'9''.

I have both the stock and the Triumph touring screen--I can't tell any difference between the two. I'm 5'8" tall and get no buffeting with either screen; however, the wind noise is unacceptable. There are a lot of after-market screens becoming available for the 1050--shop around before you buy. You can read about some of the different screens available on the tiger1050.com forum. The one that I think may be a good one to check out is the Calsci screen--made in California, I believe. Go to www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Tigerprod.html for a look at the screen, etc. Some of the guys on the tiger1050 forum say they are buying this screen and will post a write-up after testing.

If you experience buffeting with your current screen, some have cut 3 to 5 inches of height off the screen and solved the buffeting problem. Take the screen off and ride with it off--you probably will be surprised with the result. Some have had good results with the Thunderbike double bubble sport screen (a low screen) as far as buffeting, but some have said it didn't help. There are a lot of variables and these things cost enough that if you buy 3 or 4, it is a significant cost, IMHO.

Hi Redbird,

Since you have both the OEM screen and the Tiger OEM touring screen would you please measure the difference in height and let me know? I've only got the touring screen. I'm thinking of getting a Calsci but their heights are in reference to the stock screen. Thanks.

The Triumph touring screen is only 1.25" taller than the Triumph stock screen. The touring screen is 1.25" wider on EACH side in the top 5" of the screen.

I have the Calsci +7 screen and I am very happy with it. The wind noise is considerably less than with either of the Triumph screens. The "bug-line" starts just above the top of my visor--this is an important criteria for riding in Oklahoma, even in the daylight. I also like the looks of the Calsci; however, many seem to only like the looks of the small sport screens. The taller Calsci looks like it belongs--especially when you have the bags on Tiger, IMHO.

RedBird - how tall are you? I am thinking about the CalSci and am 6'1. Wondering what height would be the best. Thanks.

I spoke with Mark at Calsci yesterday and he recommended the largest screen, 10.5" taller than OEM for me, 6'4" w/34" inseam. Having had Calsci screens on my previous 2 FJRs I trust his judgment and ordered one. He has a return policy for a different screen though if it doesn't work.

He also said 10.5" was the largest he could go given the mounting points in the nose.

I'm 5'8" and the +7 Calsci works great for me. Some that are around 6' have praised the +9 Calsci. I believe Mark has directions on his web-site for using to determine what height would be good. The actual measurement that would determine the height needed would be one's height seated--and this would need to be measured as you normally sit while riding (slouched or unslouched, etc.), IMHO. I believe that's why Mark recommends marking spots at certain distances in front of the bike and sitting on the bike and measuring the height above the stock screen where you see the marked spots.

I'm one of those who has gone through four screens. I'm 6'2" and long torso. Stock screen was no good. Touring screen didn't work. Thunderbike sport better but not great. Thunderbike double bubble the best so far. Not perfect though. I've just ordered the Vario for this 1050 Tiger and it's on backorder. I'll let you know how it works when I finally get it. I thought about getting the CalSci screen but felt the Vario and its variable adjustments was a better option at this time. Time will tell.

I've also just cut down my stock screen to 1/8" above the black side stripe. I'll let you know about that too once I've ridden with it. I saw someone on the 1050 forum trip reports had done this and since my stock screen didn't work worth a darn, I don't mind experimenting with it. Hey, I've been through four screens!

I'm wonder too about replacing my mirrors to see if that cuts down this windbuffeting. Some on early version Tigers put bar end mirrors and said it cut the buffeting quite a bit. Anyone here try that?

I got one and prefer the stock. The touring shield does shield me a little better (5'10) but a lot noisier and more buffeting. A friend of mine put the CalSci on and likes it. I have not seen it yet. I think he got the tallest they have. He is about 6'0".
