Anyone have experience with the Triumph (rather costly) heated grips or other brands that work well?
I will be making a long tour this July to the Yukon and it will involve quite a lot of dirt road travel (about a quarter of the total distance is on dirt) Anyone recommend a good tyre that will work well on gravel as well as wear reasonably well on paved highways?

Peter,

These grip heaters are raved about by a lot of riders over at ADVRIDER.COM, cheap too!

A Widder heated vest and gloves are the best - or nearly the best - investment I've made. VERY comfortable, they take up very little packing space, and they seem to be pretty easy on the electrical system. Yes, I'm in Arizona, but I have ridden in the norther part of the state at -5C and been toasty warm. I like the flexibility of being able to simply turn up the heat instead of stopping and changing jackets, liners, gloves, etc. I got them on eBay - new - for lots less than the retail price.
My Tourances have treated me well on dirt. In the Yukon, unless you are travelling in winter, remember the mud. Not just mud, but MUD! From my days on the unpaved Alcan, the best hint I can give you is to put patches of duct tape over all your locks (don't forget the seat lock!). A mud-filled lock can be a real pain!

I put a set of Oxford Heatez Grips on my GT 1000 Duc for my recent trip back east. They were GREAT saved me from getting to cold.

They have four settings 50% 60% 75% and 100%, just wired straight to the battery. Straight forward install, $80 worth every penny.

When leaving on a cool morning just turned them on 60 or 75% a few minutes and warm digets were great.

Plan on getting a set for Speedy soon
