Thumbs down

So I put a pair of Battlewings on, after using Tourances and getting 7ooo+miles from the rear tyre. Based on the results shown on this thread, I figured that even though the BW's were a tad dearer, they would give me more mileage, and so be worth while. I have to admit, they give a smoother ride than Tourances, and the grip is fine, no better, no worse.
But...
I've just replaced the rear Battlewing, after 58oo miles, with barely 2mm left on it.
Gutted.
I've put another 'Wing on to keep a matched pair, but it's back to Metzeler for me when i next need a pair. I need more than 58oo out of a back tyre.

Well I won't be using these Bridgestones after a ride with a good mate of mine across France in the cool, pissing rain last year. I'm on me Tourances and he's on Battlewings. He reckoned they felt skittish and insecure and that's why he kept dropping back from me. Could be they need quite a bit of heat in them and he couldn't get that in those conditions.
He's going back to Tourances while I'm going to try Avon Azzaro/Storm combination.

I've never seen the point in using tyres that have to get hot to work, when the time you really need them to grip is when it's cold & wet.

I agree. What I really want from a tyre is endless wet grip, and good mileage. I know that these two factors tend to not go hand in hand, but I will keep on looking for that elusive combination. I'll put up with whatever a tyre has to offer in the dry and be happy with that. I never have "Oh s**t" moments in the dry, only in the wet. Having said that, I live in a very wet place compared to some on this Forum, so I concede that what I want is not necesssarily the norm.

So, on that note - what's your best tyre for wet grip and mileage - discounting the Battlewing for the reasons stated earlier. Is there a better offer for the 955 than the Tourance?

Hi,
Anakees are supposed to be good in the wet! Although they never inspired me when it was dry.

I've just put some Continental TrailAttacks on and i feel much happier but only done 100 miles or so. Continental TrailAttacks Website

Regards,

Just got 6000 on the original Anakees and probably another 3 or so left in the back one. I will be trying the Conti Trail attacks next, certainly a lot cheaper!

Wow,

You guys must ride really hard!

I've recently put new Tourances on my '06, (Yes Blacktiger, the week after you rode it )

All my riding since Jan 06 has been commuting in traffic, with the exception of a couple of day trips here and there. I managed 24,000km (14,500 miles) out of my original set of Anakees. I kid you not. Granted, they were a bit ordinary to ride on, but they were still very legal and held on pretty well, at least I thought so.

Hopefully my riding habits will change now I'm living closer to work and have more time on my hands!

Mick

Thanks once again for that ride whilst I was in Aus. I reckon you must ride the Tiger like you have to ride your Hardley Ableson. i.e. slowly....

No worries H, yes it doesn't get much hard use in the commuting I do, but it's all changing now I've moved. Doing a day trip to here. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...ht=boree+track
Should give the Tourances a work over!
