B4439?
One of my alltime favourite roads - if only! Sadly I was coming from near the NEC area, so I took the A452 through Balsall Common followed by the A4177. Still not a bad route, but too many long straights which are more the territory of the 150+mph GSX-R point-and-squirt power ranger brigade

Big Stripey, what size Battle Wings did you mount? I cannot read the info on the label in the tire picture.
Thanks.
Rear tyre is 150 x 70 x 17
Front tyre is 110 x 80 x 19

BS can you please comment on the differences between the Bridgestones on one hand and Tourance/Annakee on the other when riding on gravel or dirt roads?

Also what pressure are you running front and rear?

Skidpan on Annakees I got about 5500 on the rear and 11,500 on front.

A favourite short local route of mine (from Hall Green) is down the A435 to the A4189 near Redditch, west on that through Henley then cutting onto the single-track road past Hatton Country World then west on the B4439. Then across the old A34, past Earlswood lakes and home. A bit of everything from 100+mph if you want it to single-track dawdling. And it's completely different but equally enjoyable in the other direction.

Answer: They are both capable on gravel and fire roads, but the Tourance will be better if you go any further off road than that....

Also what pressure are you running front and rear?

Answer: 36 psi front and 42 psi rear

Skidpan on Annakees I got about 5500 on the rear and 11,500 on front.

I fitted a pair of Battlewings to my 04 Tiger a couple of weeks ago. Fitted by a local guy (from Harlow, Essex) who comes around and fits them.(www.biketyresontwowheels.co.uk). £190 fitted, which i didn't think was too bad.

Running tyre pressures of 36, 42
My bike has the dropped front forks and firmer fork springs.

First impressions - The ride was a lot firmer than the old Annakees. i took my time to make sure they were scrubbed in well before I took the Tiger off to Wales last weekend. Cross country from Hertford to Newbridge-on-wye (Powys).

With panniers and top box lightly loaded, i notice a small weave develop at speeds above 70mph in a straight line. Going through the twisties it handled fairly well. Not as confident as the Annakees but pretty good.

By the time I got the A44 (kington to Rhayader) I was really pushing the bike around the bends and I was feeling more confident with the new tyres in the curves.

Over the weekend I took the panniers off and took a pillion out. This time I had no weave and it felt fine. Ride comfirm was not bad enough to upset the pillion.

Riding solo with just the top box (my normal setup) the Battlewings seem fine and I do not get any weaving at all.

It seems that they get upset once the panniers are fitted. I will try different tyre pressures next to see if that improves the straight line performance.

I do hope they last longer than the 4000 miles I used to get out of the Annakees.

Hi Paul !! is your Tiger an alloy wheel model ?? if so, i was told be my Triumph dealer that dropping the forks too much causes speed wobble on the model !! the bike has a different rake ( techy term :???: ) to the wire wheel bike.

Hi all, being computer illiterate an all. I can't put this item up for you but in this month's "bike" magazine there is an extensive write up on dual tyres for "big Trailies". These tyres were all tested on a BMW 1200gs. The article is not that easy to follow as they test the tyres on the Track and then the Road.
dunlop trailmax
bridgestone battlewing
avon distanzia and metzelar tourances all do pretty much the same. Michelin Anakee's don't seem to do as well as the testers felt they were more suited to off road than road. These tests were purely for the speed attained around circuits and did not mention tyre life or grip offroad. :hammer:
