Looking to get an audio system. I would like to have remote speakers and not have the head sets. Need for a GPS (Quest) plug in and for a MP3 player, maybe a redardector at some point in the futrue.

Any recommandations?

I use an Autocom Active-7 with a Garmin Quest and an iPod Nano. Could never get adequate sound using the Autocom headset, but now I've got custom moulded earplugs with built-in speakers it's fantastic.

I can second Tassie's post here - Autocom w. custom moulded earplugs is an unbeatable combination. The Ipod might be an aquired taste, but under NO circumstance go for a hard drive MP3 player, no HDD can handle the vibrations, so always go for a solid state device. With the Autocom Gps, radar warning etc are also fully supported.

Hi Guys,

I use an Intaride intercom which provides lots of volume and has inputs for phone, GPS, MP3 player and two-way radio.

The intercom is mounted under the seat and I have the phone and MP3 player connected in the top-box. I do use a hard disk player (a Sony NW-HD5) and it performs fine while on the road, though I do have it mounted in foam in the top-box, beside the phone.

I'm just back from a 1700 mile trip through Germany and the Intaride was very successful in the VERY wet conditions. Music when you want it and the ability to take phone calls on the move. Most of the perople that have called me while on the move have found it very difficult to believe that I'm on the bike and running at 70 (ish!)mph.

Once I had the measure of the Garmin Quest 2 installation (isolated audio lead), it was invaluable and really made the riding more enjoyable.

Best of luck and ride safe!

Ken... :-D

I'd agree with Autocom and moulded monitors but I don't agree about the problems with HDD MP3 players. I suspect if it was mounted on the bike vibration could be a problem. My solution to that is for SWMBO or me to carry it and and we'll dampen the vibration. I've been using my HDD-based iPod on the bikes for well over a year, haven't had any problems and I don't expect any.

The Lowrance iWay500C has a 20GB HDD. 10 gig for maps and 10 gig for mp3s. Love it.

For folks on this side of the pond....
Molded earplugs are the way to go! If you don't want to spend way too much, go to: http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/silnatrubear.html
and do it yourself. You can spend as much or as little as you want. I have Koss phones in custom plugs.
I only have XM Radio, no phone, GPS, or comm. I have a TAO receiver with an external antenna mounted on my top box and find it to be fantastic! I did 388 miles yesterday listening to country and bluegrass in the boonies, and alternative rock to get through rush hour in Phoenix, 25 miles in one hour at 103 degrees! Channel 224 is Phoenix traffic, but why do I want to hear how slow it is when I'm sitting in it?

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but didn't Clarge ask about remote speakers? I took 'remote' that to mean real speakers (in Canadian) - not earplugs, headphones, and headsets.
