As already mentioned in another thread - time to plan the year ahead. SOF - Massif Central and Pyrenees were absolutely fantastic last autumn (thanks for lots of travel tips from everyone here) so thinking of eastern France - Alps into Italy this year, unless we throw caution to the wind and do Spain - Portugal - Morocco.

Last trip one slight niggle was rear shock bottoming out a few times on bad roads surfaces up in the twisties, causing some unexpected peg scraping and subsequent worrying. We were two up with luggage, so a bit of weight on the bike. Spent quite a bit of time on suspension setup, so think I had this set as good as it would get.

Would a rear shock upgrade improve on this problem? Is it worth spending the money on a bike I might swap in the next 12-18 months? Are there shock upgrades I could transfer to another 955 Tiger if I chose to go down that road later? Also - could I do this myself ? I've got very limited spanner time, but enough patience, common sense and stubborness to give it a go.

Anyone got any suggestions to brands / tips / advice / (anyone got shock upgrades with remote preload adjustment)? I know a couple of you have done this, so I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

Thanks in advance

I'd be interested in this too, my rear shock is somewhere past it's best and also struggles when pushed hard two up with luggage.

I'd be especially interested if anyone had experience of Fournales air shocks

Blimey!!!,number of answers come down to'Can you afford it',if the answer yes, you'll find the shock is the same from 99-04 i'm not sure after that.

Most of the different makes have remote preload ajusters but the Ohlins is standard were the others are an extra, but their cheaper in the first place

I've been the same route with the shock, rideing from Lisbon to Salamanca, get of the bike wife says to me is the rear shock OK?? i'm thinking if she's notice it!!!! got home put an ohlins on.

Have any exsperience with aftermarket shocks??,if not deal with someone you can talk,to make sure you get the correct spring,if you ride both one up and two up you will definetly need a preload ajuster, just make life easier(and quicker).

As for which make,Hagon,Ohlin,Whitepower,Wilbers, are the main ones, how much you want to pay, quality, and who's close to were you live if you have a problem, are the main things.

Is it worth it??,it's only when you put an aftermarket shock on you realise just how bad the standard one is.

Works Performance shock works well on my '02. They build to order. That is, they spring and valve according to your weight, riding style, payload, etc. http://www.worksperformance.com/

Ok if your the other side of the pond, but not much use over here, hardly kown, with no back up(in the UK)

What to look for,Remote preload, both compression, and rebound ajustment, and to save youself the hassle of ajusting the height of the forks through the top yoke,a ride height ajuster.

For Ohlins in the UK,phone Harris Performance, their the importers, but some times with shocks that there is little demand for they drop e'm in the lap of people like Jack Lilley.

Other side of the pond? The Internet makes the world a small place. Hence this conversation.

White Power list a piggyback shock for late model Tigers in the UK. Model number 4681 BAVP. I would really like to know if anyone has tried this shock on a 955i.

Best person to talk if you only want to make one phone call is Jack Lilley.
