Evening all. I could use some assistance regarding the comfort of my '06 955i. I have tried the gel seat......... sold it on after 200 miles with no improvement over the original one????
I have been looking at having my seat converted by LICS Ltd in Kent. Do any of you have experience with them and their conversion?

A guy from our group swears by his Airhawk seat pad, though you might have to remove it if leaving the bike parked up.

Dagad, I have seen good results from most improvements offered, including the gel seat, the airhawk and lambswool (which I have) Trouble is, seats are like screens, some work for some and not for others.

You should try wearing a pair of "skins" or lycra bike shorts under your riding pants.... even a pair of stockings that fit reasonably tightly.

The bike shorts and lambswool on the stock seat worked for me, along with making sure my back is in good alignment, as poor posture seems to be partially what makes my arsse sore.

Try using one of these inflatable cushions that is made from a heavy duty soft touch rubbery material similar to that used on good quality inflatable camping air beds and at £6.58 from: http://www.putnams.co.uk/travel.htm far cheaper than an "Airhawk" and at that price you wont lose to much sleep if it is pinched. Why not put under a sheepskin cover such as the SHEEPSKIN PET PADS @ 9.99 from http://www.lambland.co.uk and have the best of both worlds?

The seat cover I have is professionally custom made for my bike by a guy just out of Sydney who specialises in bike seat covers. http://goodwool.com.au/ They may even ship overseas....

As for the stockings.... well, silk is my preference, and I prefer taking them off than wearing them.....

Dagad, have you asked around locally to see if a nearby shop can do some modifications?

When I had my Sprint seat done, the local Harley dealer pointed me to an auto upholstery shop whose owner used to ride. Turned out he had done a bunch of seats for them. I bought a used spare seat and brought it to him. For not much money, he customized a stock seat to suit the wife and I perfectly. We were very pleasantly surprised, and have since sent several of our friends to him.

Ask around some local shops. You may find a solution there. See if you can find a spare rider seat for a Girlie to work on. Ebay or local wreckers may have one. That way you can experiment on one while keeping a stock seat handy.

Sqn Leader, I will be sending for two of those stadium seats regardless. Looks like a great addition to the camping eqiupment as well as possibly being the answer to the seat?

Think it's just the shape of the stocker since it gives no support. Had mine redone with new foam, it help but still couldn't ride w/o pain in backside. Ended up with going to Bill Mayer for new seat. Pricey, but worth every penny. Think thats going to be your best bet if you have someone across the pond that offers that kind of service.

I have experience with covers from both of the companies above. The sheepskin cover is beautifully fitted and feels great in the cold or heat. The beaded cover - unusual looking but surprisingly comfortable - is what I'm using on my Corbin right now. The bead is good for summer, but bit too cool for winter temps in places other than Arizona!
