Security/Alarm System

Gdday...from Canada....just purchased a nearly new 08 Tiger 8k on the clock...and it came with an OEM from Triumph, un-installed,, new, in the box security system....It does not seem to difficult to install. Does anyone have any experience with them?...are yhey worth the problem? Or should I sell it? We plan on some longer trips next year and the security system on my wife's BMW gives her piece of mind when parked in front of a motel etc. thx. bob.

I have a 955 model with OEM alarm and feel the same about piece of mind, only problem I have with it is when it goes into 'sleep mode' you some times have to knock the bike to make it give a chirp to be able to turn it off with the fob but mines done 50000+ miles so goes into deep sleep now lol.

I've been using derivatives of this alarm for the past 6 years. Only once was there a problem, the immobilizer failed to disconnect and the bike would not start. Was replaced under warranty and no further problems.
They do have a sleep mode to preserve battery life, but in my experience it needs to be left for some days for this to happen. Regular use and you would not know it exists. No alarm is going to stop a determined thief, but any alarm might help. As it's a freebee, why not.

Mine's the dealer supplied/approved Datatool Evo 2. It's been fine.

I'd have preferred to have it wired not to self arm but there you go.

Only problem I've had is when the fob battery went, but then if you check the little red led evry now and then that should not be a problem.

And the chirping in workshop mode is really annoying - for the neighbours !!

It's loud. Be wary of setting it off in a closed garage :-)

thx. for comments

Thanks for the comments...It sounds like the alarm is worthwhile and only a minor occasional inconvenience....will install it when the bike gets put away in November...bob.

Hi bob,

If you've got a free alarm of that quality, then fit it.

It gives you a certain peace of mind.

Having said that, in England it would have to be fitted by a Datatool engineer and the warranty paperwork signed to be elligable for insurance purposes.
