Question Rubber boots & Turn Signals

I'm a moronic and pathetic individual when it comes to any mechanics on my bike. (to provide vivid detail, I was elated by my ability to install a new horn in under 2 hours)

I purchased my 2001 955i nearly a year ago, and its my only means of transport. Being a new father of two, I was dumbfounded when my wife permitted me to sell my car for a Tiger. (then I looked at the new life insurance and understood).

Unfortunately, the previous owner kept my bike in a half-shelter, so there was some exposure to the elements. A majority of the rubber is dry-rotted, including the boots around the mirror connectors. Any ideas where to find replacements? Other rubber bits I might want to check out as well?

ALSO...Recently, some fat Harley puke broke off my turn signal. Being a cheap meiser, I'm hoping to find the best bang for the buck. Should I go with LEDs and if so, is there a minimally technical means of doing so? Any recommendations are welcome.

The rubber boots are part and parcel of the mirror assembly, the best I could come up with was to cut down some industrial cable gland shrouds.

The rubber boot covering the brake light switch rotted away within months of buying a brand new 2006 Tiger, then the strap holding the battery in place rotted away... Get the picture - yours are probably long gone! Not worth replacing with the same crap - use something else.

LED's are an expensive gimmick - get down your local breakers yard or take one off a Harley...

My rear brake light switch was rotted with 1400 km on the odometer on my 2005 Tiger.

I just cut it off... filled in the black 'plug' with silicone and wrapped the whole thing in quality heat and UV resistant black electrical tape. No problems.

Option for dry rotted rubber

I found this product at the hardware store called "Dip It' and it basically puts a weather-proof rubber coating over anything you dip into it. Most people put it onto older wrenches and the like to improve grip. Just thought I'd add that, as it created a near perfect replica of the original boot for the mirrors.

I'm now trying to dip dry rotted pieces into it to see if it "rejuvenates" them or at least makes them more servicable.

Triumph 'the thieving ****ers'

I was just about to post almost the exact same question, after a trip to Metropolis Triumph dealer, £39 each for a mirror with the rubber, you cant buy them seperatly !, the rubber boot for the clutch pedal was £5, thats probably 15p's worth of rubber !

My mirrors are getting a bit rusty on the stems and I thought a rub down and spray over with plasticote or something, but the rubbers are shot to pieces, which would have ruined my efforts !

But I love Superhaucks idea of using liquid rubber, i'm off to see if I can track some down, anybody know if the main UK DIY shops sell such stuff ?

I have just serviced my rear brake caliper and needed a new dust seal for the sliding bracket, I had to fit a Honda one as Triumph dont list them.
Most of these perishable items are used across the Triumph range and you would expect to be able to get hold of them, what if everyone emailed Triumph and complained then compare the replies.

I'm sure I've seen the mirror boots regularly on ebay.

I do like PeteH's idea of all complaining to Triumph, I'm going to email 'em right now, I'll let you know what reply I get.

I'll also keep an eye on ebay, never seen them on there but worth a look.

Cheers guys.
