Experiences with the genuine Tiger tankbags from Triumph?

Anybody got any experiences with the genuine Tiger tankbags from Triumph? Considering buying one but need to know how waterproof? On pictures they seem to take up quite a bit of space on the bike. I am into SLR photography so I that might be good for storing my equipment, but I hope they´re not getting in the way when driving?

I ride with the Triumph tankbag on my Tiger 1050 and find it very well designed and constructed. With the bag fully extended it easily holds my Nikon D80, three lenses and the SB-800 Speedlight...and there's still room for my beergut!

I wouldn't guarantee its waterproofness, but with the cover in place none of my stuff has even been damp in rain or snow.

I rode from Chester to Peterborough and back one day last year with a Triumph tank bag fitted. It started raining at Stoke and finnished on the way back at Nantwich, most of the time it was of Biblical proportions
Got to say it stood up pretty well, the contents where only slightly damp upon my my arrival home, unlike the rider who must of put a stone in weight on due to exteemely wet gear.

I have a Triumph bag on my '03. It is pretty good as there is an inner waterproof liner with drawstring for keeping the rain off delicate stuff like cameras. Only downside is that I found out while riding with the carrier in place but not using the bag, that when manoeuvering in a tight space the securing strap plastic clips can get caught between the frame and yokes on full lock. I shattered one when footing it backwards out of a parking space. Had to replace the whole item.

Tankbag

Hei Espen

The Touratech tankbag is brilliant:

http://www.touratech.com/shops/008/p...598cdd09e73ccd

Used to have this on the 900. Bit fiddly to fit but is expandable so should take plenty of your SLR gear. Comes with raincover (I think, might be an add-on), and the velcro map pocket is brilliant for just tearing off when discussing routes and asking helpfull southern Europeans where on the planet you've ended up....
Was v. disappointed when I couldn't find a way to fit it to the 1050, had to buy the smaller Triumph 1050 OEM one instead - not directly bad, just not in the same league as the TT bag was....

Hey mikeg15,
I did the same thing; however I found replacement "slip-on" plastic hardware at a store called REI. I don't know if they have it on your side.

I've always avoided tank banks for fear of damage to the paint. What have your expreiences been? Does it rub the paint off?

They had a used bag at the local dealer(Sharer Cycle Center)It looked like it would hold a case of beer and then some in the expanded mode.A nice set-up,but a bit large for me,so I just reused my old Tourmaster that has been on 3 different bike now.As far as holding SLR equipment. It should work just fine.My bag will hold my D40 and goodies easily.

Hey atokadok,
I seldom take the bag straps off so I can't testify if they wear the paint much. The times that I have removed the mounting system I have not noticed anything to get upset about. My Tiger is a 2003 with 45k miles and the tank bag has always been there.
