Has anyone got any ways of increasing the stopping power on these bikes? Are there any other brakes that fit straight on?

The standard brakes on these bikes is right on the limit of what is exceptable.

Belco100,

Have you had the dealer look at the brakes?

I had the front discs replaced under warranty, due to excessive warping/runout.
The symptoms included grabbing and reduced braking efficiency.

If the brakes are in good condition, they're more than enough for this bike, even if you're 'caning it'.

i would definately get your brakes checked first. At least to compare them to anotherTiger. the brakes on mine have a lot more stopping power than either the forks or the skinny dual front tyre can handle.

The brakes are in good shape, I just sometimes feel that they are a little underpowered and get the feeling that they have very little left in reserve, especially riding hard when two up or playing with friends on their sports bikes.

I never had this feeling on my 2002 Tiger, but the front suspension was a lot softer and suffered from colossal fork dive and just couldn’t use more brake anyway. On my 2006 version the forks are much firmer, and the whole bike feels more road biased, meaning it can be ridden harder etc.

The brakes are old fashioned twin piston design and I was looking to see if there are brakes off of anything else that may fit? Or maybe a D675 Master Cylinder? Any ideas anyone?

If the front brakes are diving that much have you fitted the progressive front springs???. I don't believe that the brakes are that bad as i ride most of my time two up with luggage and don't really ever feel that Im running out of brakes!!

They look superb, and they do 6 pots for the Tiger, but you are right about the price.

You might try swapping out the pads. My dealer changed mine to ebc (sorry don't know what beyond that) and bled out the system. They certainly felt like they had more bite after that.

I went to EBC HH pads and feel a bit more response. Not max power, I can get my tire to lock anyway, but responsiveness. Now, keeping air out of the system is crucial. If there is a tiny bubble you won't notice it until the brakes are worked hot and then start to fade away. Bleed them!

Belco I think you just have to accept the Tigers limits. I ride mine 2 up and the brakes are good enough. I also was chasing mates on faster bikes and eventually I accepted that once you push beyond the bike's performance envelope both the chassis and brakes have limitations. My fix was to buy a 2nd hand Speed Triple,which is a lot more expensive than better brakes ! But really enjoy using both bikes,they compliment one another nicely. Ultimately I may trade both against a new 1050 Tiger,but alternatively I may keep these 2. I know that not everyone can have more than one bike but if you can then I would recommend it.
