Sorry to bring this one up again but I do have a query for all you folk who have installed the off-road tune and kept the stock silencer.

What does it do to your fuel economy?

The reason I ask is that I can easily get 50mpg (UK) when touring and have never dropped below 42mpg. I've no issues with the fuelling at the moment, other than it 'feels' a bit lean sometimes and tends to run the engine very hot. Other than that the fuelling seems perfect...compared to my mate's KTM990adv!

The 6000 mile service is booked in this month and I was thinking of asking to have the tune installed at the same time. I've no intention of changing the silencer, just the tune. If it has a negligable affect on economy I'll go for it so if you have any experiences to share I'd appreciate a response - thanks.

Jon

I recently did a run of 375 klm with the warning light coming on at 355klm. (222 miles)
I installed the 'off road tune a couple of months ago and am very happy. Response to the throttle seems more controlled with a lot less snatch at low revs in 6th gear. I also went up one tooth on the gearbox sprocket and did not notice any loss of acceleration, only less revs while cruising.

I am running on offroad tune for almost 8000 miles now.
Fuel economy is more or less the same.
But the throttle response is much better, engine sound is far better and I am still with standard silencer !

I have Tuneboy so I loaded offroad tune to bike ECU myself month after I have bought the bike.
Several weeks ago, I loaded standard tune to bike and tested it for 500 miles ( 2 full tanks). I must say that there is so much difference in power of the engine between these tunes, so I am back on offroad tune again. It is so good! :-D

Slayer,
If you have Tuneboy then try Wayne's amended A/F 10121 (available here. It's even better than the off-road tune with a standard can.

Go for it!
I had the off-road tune installed (standard can & sprockets) a couple of months ago. As far as I can tell it has had little or no effect on fuel consumption, my last tankfull lasted 204 miles to the light coming on and I still only managed to squeeze 18 and a half litres into it.
Admittedly I was taking it fairly easy over most of it, my light usually comes on at around 180-190 miles both before and after the tune was installed.
The benefits of throttle response, smoother running and better acceleration far outweigh any slight loss of mpg IMHO.
Happy riding!!! :-D

Please read my post there

to sum the fuel economy issues- I didn't lose any! But gained a more powerful and smoother bike. The engine works more efficiently on better fuelling, that's why you won't lose milage. Even though street logic would lead you to think that richer mixture means burning more gas.
