I've had to have my '04 tiger lowered cos I'm vertically challenged. This has meant the centre stand is totally redundant unless there are 2 of you to pull it up. The side stand is ok but it doesn't feel safe leaving the bike so far upright.

Does anyone know of any company that produce shorter side and centre stands or can you tell me how to shorten them......bearing in mind I don't have any welding equipment.

Take em off--one at a time and take em to a welder and have them shortened. You need to figure out how much to tell him to shorten them. I lowered my 1050 Tiger and I plan to shorten the side-stand; however, I am going to leave the center stand alone. Once you learn to put a Bonneville on the center stand, the Tiger is a piece of cake--even with it lowered. :-D

I put steel sleeves in my stands after cutting them to make sure they were strong enough. I shortened them by about 30mm which is the mean of the amount I lowered the front & back (yes I know the side stand should be different but I've forgotten all my trigonometry, anyway it works).

I cut my side stand 1", and like Ian put in a steel sleeve. As Redbird did I left the centre stand alone. It is not much more difficult to lift the bike on to the centre stand even after it has been lowered, though compared to my old beemer it's like lifting an elephant. That said, I've decided to return to the standard height even if it means tippy-toeing around a bit. Riding across the island this weekend two-up (110 extra pounds on the pillion) and with the preload and the rebound turned 'way up I was dragging the centre stand on bumpy corners and rubbing the tire against the bottom of the fender when surfing road waves. Mind you, the sports bike guys were having to slow right down for the same bits of road and all the cruisers do is hold up traffic.
