I have been thinking of mounting my gps on the fairing,
like yours. Does it not wobble about with the fairing

regards Pete

Pete,

What i forgot to mention in my initial description of the GPS mounting using the RAM mounts, was the reinforcing plate that i made up using a piece of stainless steel sheet. This picture shows it in place but not fixed in place yet....

I used the mounting bolt holes for the RAM ball mount and used stainless bolts and nylock nuts to secure it in place. I have had it fitted now for a few years and it has not had any impact on the fairing whatsoever...

I will take another photo and post it up later tonight ok...

Right.....got some pics to explain it a bit better....

This is the view from the front of the bike showing the two fixing bolts behind the screen. Also note that i have changed the stick aerial for the flat pod aerial behind the fairing.

This then is the view from inside the fairing, showing the RAM ball mount

This is a view of the RAM extension arm fitted to the ball joint

This is the other ball joint fitted to the back of the streetpilot III itself

Finally, this is the view i get from my riding position, note all the warning lights are clearly visible, and the unit itself is as far out of the wind / weather as it is possible to get.

Hope this explains it better than my words ??

And, what he forgets to mention is that it was my idea in the first place.
And, yes, it does wobble a bit because the fairing flexes a bit. But, if you mail me at hgmillichap@tiscali.co.uk I'll send you drawings of a fairing brace that will eliminate the wobble completely. All you'll have to do is find somewhere to make it up for you.

Sorry Howard, i don't recall stating anywhere that i had sole patent or indeed that i thought up the idea......All i did was state how "I" fitted my Garmin mount.......

I mounted a Garmin 2610 using a combination of Touratech base clamp with RAM mounting hardware.

Works really well, and I hope will handle the jarring of offroad riding with time.
