Made up a pair of extenders for rear pegs hoping to get the wife more comfortable.
Got them mounted today (after painting them nice metallic silver to match the bike) and will be test riding them this weekend.

Also got my new Garmin 2610 wired in and mounted. Haven't got the audio connection quite figured out the way I want it but that can wait till another day.
Now to try and figure out how to get the most out of the GPS. That is definitely the biggest challenge.

The weather is getting a lot better. Spring is almost here and I am getting real antsy to get in some long rides.

Well done. I have a mate in N.Z with an '06 wanting to do the same thing. Have you got any details or pics of the mod to share?

z I took the wife for a test ride Saturday.
She used to hate riding pillion, always complained she felt like her knees were up her you know what.

She absolutely loves it now with the peg extensions, says it is very comfortable.

I will take a pic in the next day or two and post that together with specs. I basically copied what a fellow Tiger rider here had done some time ago and it worked out great.

Perhaps Big Stripey could post the pic permanently so folks can get an idea of how this can be done. There have been posts in the past inquiring about such a mod.

Did a lovely 270 ride (alone!) today. So glad spring is almost here.

I had my boilermaker make me up a pair of pilion footpeg extenders for my 2006.They are 5 inches lower than the original and look great.
We have ridden 19000kms 2 up in the last 13 months with the standard peg mounts, now being lower its even harder now to get her off the bike she loves it.

Hi, I am Zadok's mate in NZ to which he refers.

I have just been out in my shed looking at the bike and working out a modification to the pillion pegs so that her on the back can get a more comfortable leg position for our longer rides.

Our problem is that Triumph UK, in their wisdom, sent the side boxes, that were part of the purchase deal on the new bike, by surface mail and they wont be here in NZ for "five bloody weeks".

I do not want to make any modifications to the pillion pegs until the side boxes get here, for obvious reasons, I don't know how the boxes fit near the pegs!

So that I am not trying to reinvent the wheel, I would appreciate any photos or drawings of what you done so successfully with yours.

Our previous bike was exceptionally comfortable for my wife on the pillion (Honda TransAlp XL650v) and she is not entirely happy with me trading it in on the Tiger!

In anticipation of your assistance, I will say thanks for any help you can give me. Cheers John.

Hi John,

No need to wait for panniers as the pegs do not interfere with them.
I bought a piece of flat iron, 3/8" thick. 1.25 inches wide.
Cut two pieces 8" long.
Drilled mounting hole in center 2" from end.
Drilled peg mounting hole 5.5" from top mounting hole.
Buffed off all burrs and nasty metal edges, smoothed out.
Primed extenders and then sprayed with metallic silver paint (that as it turns out matches bike color perfectly), multiple coats.
Used washers to fill up space between extender and mounting bracket (when you get down there to do it you will find existing metal ridges on mounting bracket that prevent peg extender from laying flush against bracket - that is why you need spacers). Used locking washers etc etc.
Mounted extenders slightly tilted forward as this seems to work best, you can adjust to your preference.

Finished job looks pretty decent:

Have at it. Works great and now the wife happy to join me.

Thanks very much Stan, for the quick reply and photos of your pillion peg modification.

They look good and are nice and tidy too.

The most important information for me was that the boxes don't interfere, after that it is more about personal dimensions of our most significant other passenger I guess!

Have you noticed any interference of the extended pegs on your own feet, boots, or ankles at all, especially when stopping or starting etc?

Thanks again. Cheers John.

Originally I had the extenders tilted more forward but it looked to me like wifes toes and my heels might make contact. So tilted the extenders back farther, took a test ride and no problems.
My fellow Tiger rider here who I basically copied for this mod has ridden extensively with his wife and he has no problem, even though he has extenders tilted more forward than mine.

Great modification! I have planned the same thing, and will include on additional feature. That is to weld, or bend in a tab that fits into the v part of the existing bracket to prevent the extension from swinging if too much pressure is put on it.

I know this sounds pedantic, but with only one bolt holding an 8" metal bar, there is nothing to stop it swinging eventually after some use.

Mick
