06 TT sump guard + centre stand?

After doing this to my lovely 06 I can no longer put off the moment that I invest in some sump/exhaust guarding. A few stones flipped up by the front wheel on the higher speed trails was enough...and that was before landing with a clunk on top of a rock at 0mph later!

I've done a thorough search on this site, TigerTriple & ADV rider but I cannot find an answer....to this question;

Has anyone fitted the Touratech Skidplate to the 06 model Tiger with the centrestand?

(I have kloads of examples where this has been done succesfully to the pre '05 spoke wheel models but there seems to be an interferance issue with the later frame/swingarm design)

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I shell our wonga on the overpriced TT item!

Thanks (in hope!),
Jon

Hi Jon,

Nice to see Tigger being used off-road

In my opinion, the problem with any type of after market skid plate on a 955, is getting it to look good on the bike. That's impossible due to the way Triumph decided to run the exhaust pipes under the engine. The pipes are just too low.

Without exception, every skid plate I have seen looks bulky and out of place because of this

They should have ran the pipes down the side of the engine.

And as for the OEM one, that's not fit for purpose, it's just a cosmetic item.

Good luck in your search

If you were to pop over to www.tigertriple.com > Girlies ..... scroll til you find
Stretch's '06 Silver Tiger with his homemade sump guard..... really nice.

Also.. stay away from Triumph OEM centerstand.... POS. Crummy, lightweight, stamped metal fatigues easy and fast. Soon your back tire is 1/4" off the ground.

I think the TourTech sumpguard and centerstand will work together.... but call your credit card company to authorize the charge!!!

My OE stand is still going strong. I wonder if the reported failures have been a result of riders sitting on their bikes and rocking them forward to knock them off the stand? I've seen this done many times, with luggage and pillions on board, and it makes me wince! I was always told that this action would wear the centrestand pivots & stops on any bike.

The OE centrestand is designed to hold the weight of the bike (which I presume includes luggage). It is a pain that the sumpguard has to be modified in some way to fit though. I still haven't done the deed!
