Aux lights on Thunderbike bars
Finally got around to fitting these on my 06.
Lights are SW Motech which come with wiring kit and handlebar switch
Brackets are SW Motech to suit 22mm bars (they also supply brackets for 26mm)
Crash bars are Thunderbike.
Having thought and thought about this for a long time (OK, procrastinated) I ended up with a more logical wiring solution than that suggested in the SW Motech kit. The basic set up suggests that the feed to the lights and to the switcjing relay comes straight from the battery therefore any oik can switch them on and drain your battery whilst you are away from the bike.
The obvious thing to do is feed the relay from a switched live, such that the lights can only be turned on when the ignition is switch is in the 'on' position. This would be fine but Triumph chose to put in a clever little relay to kill the headlights when you press the starter button , presumably to reduce the load on the battery at this crucial time. It's a simple task to splice in the relay feed to the auxilary lights from this so that they too switch off momentarily when starting.
I'm not usually the best person for this sort of job (red-green colourblind) but it seems to be working fine! With all four lights on I must look a bit like a scene from Close Encounters to other drivers on unlit roads. I have noticed how effective a similar set up is on the many GSA1200s we see out there, even in broad daylight.
