Dim clocks and idiot lights

Took my recently adopted '05 girlie out for a long run around the north east coast over the weekend . Brilliant bike these Tigers. Comfy, smooth, deceptively quick and good fun in the twisties too! Rode her home in the dark for the first time too and came across what was a problem, for me at least.

The clocks on my bike are really hard to see at night and almost impossible to read at dusk. Same is true of some of the dash panel warning lights during the day, especially the indicator lamp. This is either a Tiger foible that someone here has remedied, or my eyesight's much worse than I thought.

Has anyone done a modification or put in brighter bulbs or l.e.d.'s to improve the backlighting of the clocks and brightness of the dash panel warning lights?

Ooh thanx for the link Andy.
Mike, the one lamp you wont need to change (if its like mine) is the low fuel warning, way too bright even in daylight.

I siliconed a small sheet of black plastic on the top of the dash, as wide as the air scoop. It extends out about two inches from the top edge of the dash. This acts as a shade and helps make the lights more visible in the day.

Not much one can do about the clock except get a different one and put where it can be seen.

This may not be much help, these folks have what you need but they are on the wrong side of the pond.

If I remember right I ended up with a wide angle led in the speedo. Didn't worry about the tach as I was to lazy to pull it to replace lamp.

The indicator bulbs are easy.

LED Idiot lights

Hi All,

I replaced all the clock and idiot lamps with LED's in my '06 Tigger. One by one they all packed up over the course of a couple of years, so I've gone back to the original bulbs now. The Moral of my story being: Old tried and tested technology still has some life left in it!

Cheers,

Dave.

dim clocks etc.....

Thanks to all of you for the advice and suggestions regarding my idiot & clock liights issue.
I have just finished upgrading my headlight bulbs (Osram Nightbreakers) and trying to adjust them to shine a little higher than the top of the front mudguard (guess the previous owner must have ridden well loaded up!)

While I was at it, I took a look at how to get at the bulbs in the console and clocks. The indicator warning lamp appears to be a breeze but the speedo and revcounter look like a major dissasembly job to get at.

Still.........as spanner twiddling counts for half of the fun of having a bike in the first place, i'll get the haynes manual out tonight and have a crack at it when the led's arrive in the post later in the week.

I`ve only had the speedo LED fail, twice, so have ordered 2 more from a different supplier, wee`ll see what they`re like as I can`t live with standard bulbs !!

http://www.ultimatemods.co.uk/t10-ca...b-501-w5w.html

as for the tacho, i don`t think its worth changin that, its 2 much hassle and its only a 286 bulb anyway !! also DON`T put an ultra bright LED in the main beam indicator reminder thingy as it will illuminate yer dash, screen and visor at night

and lastly, remember LEDs only work one way, so check it`s in the right way before you button it all up !!
