K&N Filter on 01' 955i Tiger.. Anyone run it?

I just ordered one, but hind-sight is 20/20.

I don't know if this will mess up the fuel mapping of the ECU or if it will simply compensate via the fuel regulator valve.

I'm going to run it regardless, I just don't know if I need to have the bike tuned afterward.

Let me know!

hi, I fitted a K&N on my '06 955 and didn't remap, was told it is not required. Bike runs well and won't have to look at filter for 60,000 miles!!

Thanks for the reply!

The bike has been sitting for 8 years, so I may have a tech go through it, or at least check the ECU anyway after I get it on the road....

Might, also, have it dyno-tuned or throw a Power Commander in it...

That's down the road though .

A 8-year lay-up shouldn't have affected the ECU, I'd have thought.

I've not read of people using Power Commanders with Triumphs. Generally, it's done the 'proper' way, directly changing the ECU air/fuel map, either by using Tune-Boy/Tune-Edit or having a Triumph dealer download a 'tune'. As far as I know, the two available factory tunes for a girly are the standard one and the off-road tune. The off-road tune is aimed at users of the off-road can/muffler/silencer(?) (which is stamped "Not for road use") but many people reckon it improves the standard bike anyway. Much cheaper than buying into a PCmdr or Tune-Boy!

I noticed no difference when I fitted a K&N filter. The bike was due a clean filter and K&N was readily available. On the other and, the off-road silencer and tune has pepped things up a bit, both performance-wise and aurally. ;-)

My 955 have run from day 1 with the offroad tune and open pipe, the original pipe has been in the box over 8 years!!,not only did the bike run OK with a K+N and thats been in 5 or 6 years, there is a mod that you can do by taking out the blanking plate inside the airbox, even with that done the bike runs fine, well, very well actually, and that included a flat out run a couple of years ago, over a lot of miles, but thats another story.

If a fuel management system can compensate for altitudes from 250' below sea level to 12,000 ft - altitudes where I've ridden my Tiger - it can manage different air filters without a hiccup. Messing about with the exhaust may be a different matter, that might take remapping.

I put a posting up else were, but when you do the airbox mod,do not be tempted to spilt the airbox,it's screwed togther, but when they build e'm in the first place, they dink the threads, and half way out the furrels start turning in the other half of the case,i was that man!!!,use a dremmel and a vacum cleaner to cut it out,i've run mine with the offroad tune(well i've had about 13 installed actually) open Remus pipe K+N and the airbox mod,and a 19 tooth engine sprocket,it will pull all the way to the redline in top, better than a stocker with an 18t.

Think about a Pipercross...which is a famous filter in Europe and now distributed in USA by Cal Sportbike:

http://www.calsportbike.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi

It will flow more air for longer and is already oiled.
