Monaco

This years trip in August is down to Monoco Via the Central Massiff and then back Via Switzerland.

Iv done the other two plenty of times but have never done Monoco and so just thinking if anyone has any tales of woe going there or can recommend anything. I always camp and so if anyone knows of a good site just outside I would appretiate it. Iv heard that the Tip top club / Cafe is worth doing as it's were all the old F1 drivers went to after the race and got lashed up.

All recomendations most welcome.

Hi Clive,
Maybe not what you want to hear but apart from the F1 connections and the impressive boats in the harbour I found Monaco a bit of a let down. I'd recommend staying at Menton which is just a little further up the coast (towards Italy). Easily close enough to visit Monaco just 5 miles away, even if its just to ride around the GP circuit. I don't camp so I can't help you with sites. I'm sure you know there's some fantastic roads just north of this area as you head into the Alps. Have you been around the Gorge du Verdon, which is about 50 miles west of Monaco? I'll be heading there myself later this year.

Clive,
Years ago the closest camp site to Monaco was at Roquebrune-cap-martin just out towards Italy. Being so close, it was a bit of a rip-off price wise. Don't know if it's still there as I haven't been camping down that way for ages.
As for Monaco itself, it's an experience. I wouldn't bother to rush back.

Oh, watch for the dog sh1t all over the place. The rich tarts empty their dogs anywhere and everywhere.
