Yipe!
I was hit by a geezer in a huge street barge of a car today. He rolled right through a STOP sign and hit me square in the left side case. The rear wheel slid sideways a bit and I took on quite a wobble, but miraculously stayed upright. I put the bike on the side stand and got off to see if I was alright (I was). Then the old man came up and said, "I'm awfully sorry about that - how do they expect me to look both ways at once?" To which I replied, "Well, that's what you DO at STOP signs." Seeing that the bike only had a very minor scratch (although somewhat large) on the black bottom portion of the sidecase, and that the old fellow was really shook up, I just couldn't bring myself to call the Police. I just asked him to be more aware of motorcycles and to stop AND LOOK at the stop signs to be safer.
I was a bit shaken for a while, but not too bad. I haven't been hit on a motorcycle before. I've had a few bumps on a bicycle though. He didn't hit me very hard, but I thought I was going down for sure. I really can't say how I kept it upright.
That Triumph luggage makes terrific bumpers!

LOL - Yes, unfortunately he came at me from the rear left and I couldn't get away in time. I if hadn't seen him coming, it would have been MUCH worse. I don't know how both he and his passenger couldn't see me I was the only thing in the road and the intersection was very wide with no obstructions at all. He drove accross a land and turned left to hit me. :O) Oh well, you live - you learn right?

I must admit, I would not have been nearly so forgiving. He sounds like the kind of motorist that should not be allowed a license. Age is irrelevant - he could have kiled you!or he may kill the next one when he decides not to bother looking.

Keep rubbin' it in, SoCalRider! :-D 75 degrees - that deserves a sick day from work.
The more I think about the less I understand how he was able to hit me out in the open like that, but that just exposes one more vulnerability - not only do we have to be hypervigilant and expect the unexpected, but also expect the completely absurd.

djr,
You're right, and I have had some guilty feelings about not taking him off the road, but admittedly I sometimes have a tendency to get offended too easily and I was trying hard to stay calm and rational. I was also pretty shaken by the whole thing and so was the driver, somehow the human compassion part took over instead of the fat lip impulse.
