My take on the name.

The older carb fuelled 885 Tigers usually get the nickname "Steamer"
Then came the Electronic Fuel Injected (EFI) version of the 885 & later the 955, being called Effie it must be a girlie so the name was born. The early girlies (1999 to 2002 885s if I recall) didn't have the "eyelashes" on the fairing & the "girlie" nickname was around before the "eyelashes" arrived.

Hope this helps, any other versions of the evolution out there?
