I'm still shopping around for a new lid and have been giving some serious thought to a "flip-up" which may be handy when touring, as there's still some life left in my current Shark full face anyway.
I very nearly bought the Shoei Syncrotec II on saturday but thought I'd ask you guys for some feedback first. I'd be particularly interested in noise levels, and fitting Autocom.
I believe biking plods use these lids so they must be ok - although this is the only fact that puts me off

I have never used that particular helmet but I beleive that all flip ups are noisier than equivalent full face helmets. I know a lot of guys that wear them, particularly spectacle wearers and they reckon they are pretty decent generally.

I've had a Syncrotec for a couple of years. Prior to that had a Shoei XR900. I've found it to be a great helmet, used for touring all over Europe, and numerous long distance rides in UK. I'd say the noise level is the same as a conventional full face Shoei helmet, but has considerable benefit of the flip when stationary, or going slow. Is also much easier to put on and off.

I have used the syncrotec for the last 10 years with no complaints.I find it invaluable for all forms of riding.i have tried a few other flip ups,But the syn.was the right head shape for me so I stick to it.I think it is an excellant choice overall. I am interested in the Arai xover just curious.

I think this might be the Arai XD which I just got after riding with Shoei RF900 (her ein the states). There is no comparison..the Arai is lighter, warmer (in the cold), more ventilation, and quieter. The sun screeen is a great addition and fitted with a Fog City Hyperoptiks insert no sunglasses necessary even in the glariest fresh snow, low sun conditions. The only downside (and it is easy to get used to) is when looking over your shoulder for a lane change at speed (>70MPH, 100KPH) the sun screen can catch a bit on the way back but it is easily under control.

I assume this is a new model as its not shown on the Arai Europe website, mind you that was last updated last September.
I currently use an RX7 which is superb but expensive.

Yes, I think the XD is a new model and yes it is EXPENSIVE.
Here is a picture (I hope it works).

IWore an Aria Full face for years, love the fit and comfort. When I bought my Tiger, I made the Dealer throw in a HJC SYMAX. I'm really impressed with this budjet minded helmet. It's almost as quiet as my Aria, and very comfortable. I find my self grabbing for it just because of the flip up feature. If you have never tried one, it definitely worth looking into for commuters. Being able to flip it up at the toll booth is worth it's weight in gold.
