Michelin Anakees

I've had my '06 Tiger for about two months now and have been very impressed to date. Yesterday, gave me a great appreciation for the Michelin Anakee donuts. We were under the curtain of rain in the northeast and I was given the priviledge of riding the Tiger to and from work. The Anakees were amazing. Not one indication of slip, held tight through the turns, and provided confidence at highway speeds. Are others as happy as me with these Michelins?

Anakees are ok but for riding on tarmac Michelin Pilot Roads are far superior.Better handling and stability and better in the wet. They also last longer which helps justify the higher purchase price.

BT020's were great for riding on paved roads when they had sizes available for the Tiger's 19" front wheel.

My bike came with Annakees also but I've found that Metzler Tourances last longer, grip better and offer better handling and cornering than the Annakees

Bike mag did a very impressive and big comparison test of "giant trailie" tyres last year. Avon Azaro (19" equivalent) and Storm rears were far away the best on road tyre. Only problem was that one of their tyres split during the test. Avon pointed out the split wasn't dangerous but, I guess, the damage was done.

I figured they might be a good deal because of this poor publicity. Not only were they cheap, they came with free replacement if punctured for their first 3 months. My local friendly bike garage, http://www.victory-vtwins.com/ told me that in the previous month they'd replaced 2 tyres and Avon coughed up immediately.

Apart from the good deal, they were dramatically better than the clapped out Anakees, and 4k miles later they still look and feel good. Although the rear is squaring off a bit.

On reflection, I suppose they would be better then the clapped out Anakees. The most noticeable change was the absence of tramlining, followed by their feeling of solidity when cranked over.

I put a pair of Pilot Roads on Ginger last week-end. The feeling of stablity in in bends over the Tourances they replace is quite something.

Agreed.

A 100 % road tire does corner better than even a 90-10 road/dirt tire such as a Tourance or Annakee.

I used to get just about 6,000 miles on the rear with Bridgestone BT 020s which are a road tire. They handled beautifully until they squared off.

The Tourances last a good bit longer before they square off as well. Living in Florida has it's downside.

Completely agree about Pilot Roads... so much smoother than Anakees, plus I got 9,000 miles out of the rear and almost 14,000 out of the front, and even then they still have a fair amount of tread, just they squared off badly (a lot of motorway miles to blame) A courier that visited us regularly on an 06 Tiger (32,000 miles in 6 months!!!) had used Pilot Roads and Bridgestone 020's reckoned they were very similar but the Pilot's lasted a bit longer...

Good Responses

Guess I'm not a hard sell based on your feedback on tire selection. Coming off a string of Harleys wrapped in Dunlops, these Anakees have impressed me. Guess I'll have to do a little more research before I have to replace these stock tires. Thanks.

I guess it's all relative. I came to my Tiger with Anakees from BMWs with radial street tires. I thought the Anakees were scary until I got used to them.

I think the move from 17" front wheel w/street tire on the BMW to a 19 inch wheel w/"DP" tire on the Tiger was the big change for me.

I've had all of the recent standard fit tyres that triumph have supplied on Tigers starting with the Mitchelin T66 then a set of Anakees then a set of Tourances which let me down big time. then back to Anakees. Now I am on my first set of Pilot Roads & find them very good, stable & good grip in most conditions on tarmac.

I did like the Anakees & wouldn't be perturbed by going back to them they seemed to last me a long time (old fart on two wheels ) most of my miles are done commuting these days & I find that the Pilot Roads are doing a great job so will probably go for another set of them when the time comes to change.

The Tourances I had cracked up, literally, after only 2500 to 3000 miles of use. Large fissures appeared at the root of the tread blocks on both front & back tyres which went all the way in to the carcase, to cut a long story short after much wrangling with Triumph (the tyres were the ones supplied from new on my current Tigger) I lost the will to live & put tourances on my ignore list. I know loads of the guys on here swear by them but not this one.

Whatever rubber you put on keep it road side down & enjoy riding your bike, as always there are as many opinions about tyres as there are riders on the road, long may it be so
