Brooks- I have been looking at the Day-Long seat and wonder how it fits for roominess. I have a Corbin on my 05 and it is too hard for my butt bones. I like the Corbin size as the stock seat kept pushing me forward and was a bit narrow on the cheek area but wonder if the Russell ergos would be right. The other choice seems to be a Mayer but it is $$$. Sargent is another one but I don't know much about them and they only list the 07+ Tigers.

I want my rear to be as happy as the rest of me when I am riding so there will be a Corbin for sale as soon as I resolve this.

I am currently in AZ and I have to say before you drop a whople lotta cash on a new seat, I really enjoy the combo of beadrider and stock seat!! I had a ferocious case of monkey butt here when the temps started rocketing above 85 degrees. The bead rider is really comfy and zapped my monkey butt away. Maybe a sheepskin pad?
I have a sheepskin on the ST.That combined with the riding shorts seemed good on it, but I did feel the seat was too gishy. We all like a different seat type depending on our rear prefrence... so far I like the wide hard pan of the Corbin, bu then I haven't put any miles on the Stock seat, so that is the next task.

btw.. Corbin emailed back that putting a new piping color on would cost $220 plus $28 return freight... given that isn't much more than I paid for it... I'd say I am going to be selling this to some lucky Yellow tiger owner, or experimenting with some green dye... green and yellow make blue... right... ( cough)

Anthouse,

The Russell is quite wide but it does have a definite pocket. Front to back movement is possible but it's not as much as you might be used to on the Corbin or even the stock seat.

Usually the need to move forward and backward on a seat is to relieve hot spots and improve comfort. With the Russell that's not an issue. It has an entirely different seating position with strong support under your thighs which takes weight off your butt. It's more like a bucket seat in a sport car.

The shape of the Russell keeps you back in the saddle and eliminates the tendency to slide forward towards the gas tank, which is what the stock Triumph seat does.

The Russell is wider than stock but it is narrow at the front. It is also a good bit taller than the stock seat. I'm 6' tall with a 32" inseam and I can just barely get both feet flat on the ground with the Russell in the lowest position. To do so, I have to slide to the front where the narrow portion of the seat is located.

As I've mentioned earlier in this thread, I've had terrible experiences with Corbin seats. They've all been too hard without ever breaking in, even after 20K miles, they've held water like a sponge, split at the seams and never fit properly. This Russell is a major improvement.

I've had a lot of experience with all of these aftermarket seats, Russell being the only true custom seat available without a personal on-site fitting. In order of best comfort, quality and value I'd rank these seats in this order....

1. Russell
2. Mayer
3. Sargent
4. Triumph Gel
5. Triumph stock
6. Corbin

If you're not inseam challenged I think you'll really like the Russell.

Corbin Vs Stock Feedback
I went for a ride with the stock seat on today. It was an immediate reaction. I felt that the pressure on my butt was distributed completely differently, I'd say that the stock seat made a contact area that felt like 65% of the Corbin. Resulting in a less comfortable feel. I also felt the ridge of the seat pan on the stock digging into me. I also felt pushed towards the tank more. IE the Corbin sets me back about 1-1/2"s and it feel much better on the fly. The stock seat however feels much better at stop or on the pegs. The Corbin is just to **** wide up front and while it has an excellent ride, I feel that is sketchy riding terrain it isn't my cuppa. I did 1++ miles of unimproved forest road yesterday with the full kit on (duh) and while I made it out and back, the riding was technical, with some 4" trees to cross and many large wash outs and puddles. If I was doing all asphalt, and was certain I would stay there, I might stay with the Corbin.. my butt liked it fine, and my butt does not like the stock seat at all compared to the Corbin.

for sale... Standard Corbin Seat for up to an 06 Tiger. Black with yellow piping.... I'll go put an advert in the classifieds....

Put a sheepskin from Alaska Leather on the thing and you shouldn't be able to see the yellow piping, at least most should be covered. What little shows don't worry about it. Ride the thing and save your $$$ for other farkels. If you want will send you pic of the stock seat with a sheepskin on it so you can get an idea of coverage. A new corbin is going to cost you $400+ with shipping.

This is started to read like the wind screen threads!
Some like Corbins, some don't, to much this not enough that! Well, I've ordered my Corbin so I guess until I try it, don't know if I'll like it. I saw a used one on a used '04 in a dealership and it looked like crap. It was pulled away from the tank and hard as freakin cement!

I think the hard seat has got to be better that the soft squishy, narrow, tilted forward stock seat though. I am excited about getting it and hope I like it. but, am somewhat concerned about the wider front edges and being able to reach the ground comfortably.

More to come...

Not a bad solution... I have sheepskin on the ST.. I like and the look. I got mine from a NZ shop, but will check out the Alaska guys...

I still have an issue with my stance, when the Corbin is fitted, when I am off the pegs at stops or in more interesting terrain. However I know I can't do 25k on the stock seat now that I have ridden on the Corbin... my guess is that there is a better choice... I know from experience that the gishy foam seat isn't for me, and that I really like the Corbin...

I got a sheepskin cover from http://www.sheepyhollow.com/ that I love! I had it on the stock seat, I'll now modify it to fit my Corbin. The fit and finish are amazing! The big drawback now is how weak the $US is compared to other currency so things from Oz now cost a bunch more. I love the Corbin, but as the temperature warms up, I miss my sheepskin.

FWIW, I use a bead pad on my Corbin in hot weather.
