In Sydney it's legal for bikes to be in Bus Lanes, but there are two kinds of Bus Lanes. Bus Only Lanes, are just that, nothing else is allowed in them. Bus Lanes allow buses, hire cars, taxis and motor cycles. That being said, there aren't that many of them and they are mainly on arterial roads, not city streets, so they're much safer for a bike to travel in.

A good thing IMO

Mick

We have bikes in bus lanes (Northern Ireland). It works pretty well however there are not so many bikes as could be expected in London and not so many pedestrians diving about all over the place so I think its easier.

With apologies to those of you outside London - There are already a couple of roads where bikes can use the bus lane - Finchley Road for example. And as I recall that only got brought in because we used it anyway.I don't think the world has come to an end as a result so there's not really any reason not to extend the idea elsewhere throughout the capital

No offence taken Moose but I have been riding in London since 1976 so I am not a complete novice to city traffic, there just seem to be a lot more unskilled scooter riders on the roads these days and the bus lanes are bound to be full of them at times.
