I have about 400 miles on my new 2005 BRG Tiger, and I have a quick question. Today when I got home I noticed that the motor seamed to rattle a bit when idle, I think it is normal, it sounds like the motor is starting to loosen up a bit. This being my first Triumph 955i, it kinda sounds like valve klatter.

Also what is the weight of the oil in the bike for breakin, it seams a bit light in viscosity.

Thanks,

Erik

triumph use a mineral oil for the break in period. This allows the surfaces to bed in properly. The oil is then changed to fully synth at the first service and you will notice the difference, not only in noise level but clutch changes etc as well.

SOCal...on my 2003, when new ... I initially thought there was excess noise on my Tiger when warm, especially at idle. After about 1000 miles, there was either less noise or I just got used to the clack.

Listening to a few other Triumph triples, I've concluded the idle clatter seems typical. Other Japanese, which Triumph used for engineering consulting early in the triple design.

I feel, after the oil changes, there was less overall noise.

Tiger tales,

I think your right, it sounds like a combination of valve clatter and cam chain noise at idle. I have been riding my duc for quite a while and the belts and desmo valves just dont make this type of noise. I was at are local RAT club gathering tonight and all the 955i sonded like this, so i am more at ease.

Thanks,

Erik
