Shock Value

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thinking about the trip up the Brickyard MotoGP in September I went out and checked under the seat of my 06' Tiger and looked at the shock for the first time (I've only put 3,000 miles on her-yet!).
I can play a mean guitar, but know very little about motorcycles.
Anyone have any advice on adjusting the rear shock for on and off road? I usually ride solo, though my wife rides pillion once or twice a week.
How would I set the suspension differently for a long haul?

The handbook will gve you a rough guide as to what to set the rear shock at for solo use, luggage and passengers etc. The top of the shock can be adjusted with a socket. The shock has graduated markings which you can wind it up and down to. The bottom of the shock has a small grub screw for adjusting the damping. Screw it in fully clockwise and then anticlockwse slowly feeling for the 'clicks' which measure the amount of damping.

Shock settings totally depend, obviously, on how heavy you and your good lady are. I come in at 200lbs and have the spring at around "3" for solo work. Crank it up 15~20 clicks for 2up. The damping is down to your feeling really. Adjust it so that the bike doesn't bounce around too much. Experiment until you get it right for you.
